Jimmy Kimmel blasted for inviting Garth Brooks on his late-night talk show amid singer's assault lawsuit
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jimmy Kimmel is known to take jabs at celebrities who are in a bind during his monologues on his late-night talk show which airs on ABC. However, he might have overlooked Garth Brooks' ongoing troubles.
The comedian faced heat for ignoring the assault allegations made against the singer when Brooks made an appearance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' on Monday, November 25, as per OK! Magazine.
Jimmy Kimmel avoids bringing up assault allegations brought against Garth Brooks
With a broad smile, the 57-year-old late-night host welcomed the 62-year-old country singer—who also performed on the show—and asked him a series of gentle questions about his Thanksgiving plans.
Kimmel focused on the holiday during his conversation with the 'The Dance' crooner, avoiding any reference to the country music legend's legal troubles and utterly ignoring the assault allegations made against him by his former employee in October.
"It’s very good to see you. … I can’t think of a better guest for Thanksgiving week because you are as American as Americans get, and I mean that in a good way," Kimmel told Brooks.
The ABC host continued by enumerating several characteristics that define the Grammy winner as 'American,' such as being a baseball player and a country singer.
"You probably have more gratitude than anyone who’s in the realm that you are in of anybody," Kimmel exclaimed.
Kimmel further asked the 'Friends in Low Places' singer about his plans for Turkey Day after Brooks thanked him for the nice remarks and joked that he is also a "great eater."
Before praising his wife Trisha Yearwood's culinary abilities, Brooks said, "We’ll have about 25 people over for Thanksgiving," adding, "She’s [Trisha] a fantastic cook."
Yearwood and Brooks got married in 2005. The musician was previously married to Sandy Mahl, with whom he had three daughters: Allie, 28, August, 30, and Taylor, 32.

Garth Brooks gets emotional in his first interview amid assault lawsuit
The country music star eventually ended up on set in Los Angeles after initially canceling the show due to his ongoing legal battle with a former employee who filed a lawsuit last month accusing him of assault.
This was Brooks' first interview since the assault lawsuit was filed where he visibly became emotional. Kimmel never inquired about the case, but Brooks appeared to touch on it in passing.
The 'Friends In Low Places' hitmaker broke down in tears as he talked about family Christmas customs with his wife and his three daughters.
He said, "For me, [Christmas tree] ornaments are cool, but they gotta have a meaning to them. [Yearwood and I] always decorate with the three girls."
"We've done that since we've known each other. So the three girls have three bells, and that's the first thing that has to go on the tree," Brooks added, as per Daily Mail.
"I'm gonna start crying, sorry," he said, fighting back tears. "That's the first thing that goes on the tree, and that means it's Christmas and that means it's time to love one another and drop all this silly s**t and just have some fun together."
However, the blatant disregard for Brook's recent assault lawsuit that his former hair stylist filed against him at the beginning of October in the light interview infuriated several social media users.
Brooks' former worker accused him of assaulting her violently in a hotel room in Los Angeles in 2019, which he vehemently denied and claimed he was the "victim of a shakedown" in court documents.
Fans criticize Jimmy Kimmel for inviting Garth Brooks to appear on his late-night talk show
Critics lambasted Jimmy Kimmel for inviting Garth Brooks to appear on his late-night program with many enraged with the comedian's failure to mention the country singer's ongoing legal battle.
One X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, "I like Kimmel and his show, but why have Garth Brooks on and completely ignore the elephant in the room? And is it a little weird that Brooks refers to his wife as Miss Yearwood?"
Others, however, conjectured that Kimmel might be avoiding controversy because he has been at the center of it.
"To be fair Garth Brooks didn't bring up Kimmel wearing black face," said one.
The social media user was alluding to the controversy that surrounded Kimmel's use of blackface in TV sketches from the 1990s, where he mimicked celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and NBA player Karl Malone.

One person commented on Instagram, "Hey @jimmykimmellive your [sic] a horrible human!" while another said, "Insane you had him on your show but bawled on live TV when Kamala lost by a landslide 😂😂😂," while another critic said.
With reference to Brooks' ostensibly conservative audience, the critic seemed to be disparaging Kimmel's backing of Vice President Kamala Harris and dislike for President-elect Donald Trump.
A person declared, "Don’t like the man never did."
