PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: President-elect Donald Trump’s love affair with Diet Coke continues as he gears up for his second term.

On Tuesday, January 14, the president-elect was beaming with happiness as he received a personalized bottle of his favorite beverage, just days before his inauguration.

Donald Trump honored with presidential Diet Coke

In a photo shared by Deputy Director of Communications Margo Martin, Donald Trump is seen grinning ear-to-ear next to Coca-Cola Chairman and CEO James Quincey.

The President-elect is seen holding a glass bottle of Diet Coke, decked out in a special inauguration-themed label. The design featured a sleek gray, blue, and red layout emblazoned with the words “Inauguration of President of the United States Donald J Trump” and the date, January 20, 2025.

As if the commemorative bottle wasn’t enough, it came tucked inside a flashy red box complete with a card extolling Coca-Cola’s economic impact.

The note read, “We’re proud to continue our decades-long tradition of celebrating the US presidential inauguration with a commemorative bottle,” while boasting about the company’s $55 billion contribution to economic activity and its support of 860,000 US jobs.

For Coca-Cola, special-edition inauguration bottles are nothing new. Obama’s inaugural Coke bottles reportedly fetch as much as $50 a pop on eBay, the Daily Mail noted. But the tradition wasn’t as sweet for some Trump critics, who were quick to pour out their disdain on social media.

"We will be drinking Diet Pepsi from now on," one user posted on X.

"That's why Pepsi is better," another wrote.

"Suddenly craving a Pepsi," one person remarked.

"I thought MAGA said RFK JR was going to clean up americas diets?" someone else wondered.

"The only reason large corporations are happy with Trump being back in office is because his tax plan didn't affect the rich only the middle class," read a comment.

"Trump will likely soon be selling his own soda to complement the peddling of his bibles, sneakers, watches, trading cards, cologne, and other grifts. All dignity and class … that’s our President-elect," another critic fumed.

Donald Trump’s Diet Coke obsession

Donald Trump’s relationship with Diet Coke is the stuff of legends. During his first stint in the White House, he even installed a button in the Oval Office to summon his favorite drink at a moment’s notice. “Everyone does get a little nervous when I press that button,” Trump joked at the time.

His preference for Diet Coke is so notorious that those around him rarely see him drink anything else.

UFC CEO Dana White once spilled during a podcast that he’s “never seen Trump drink a glass of water,” before adding, “He’ll sit at the fights with me all night. All night—you’re talking like six hours. So, I’ll ask him, ‘Do you want a water?’ ‘No, no, no.’ And somebody will bring him over a Coke, and he’ll drink Coke.”

Even PGA golfer John Daly had to admit that Trump takes the cake—or, in this case, the Coke. “My god, I thought I could drink them, but man, he can drink them,” Daly said in a conversation with Kid Rock and Tucker Carlson. Kid Rock chimed in with a laugh, “He does put them away.”

Despite being synonymous with Diet Coke, Trump was spotted on the 2024 campaign trail sipping a red-label Coca-Cola, sparking rumors that he might have switched to the classic Coke.

Of course, his love-hate relationship with diet sodas is well-documented. Trump famously tweeted back in 2012, “I have never seen a thin person drinking Diet Coke,” leaving many scratching their heads.

But even with his reservations, Trump couldn’t quit his bubbly habit. “The Coca-Cola company is not happy with me—that’s okay, I’ll still keep drinking that garbage,” he admitted later.
