LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Looks like Snow White is headed for some stormy weather before its big release.

Rachel Zegler, the 23-year-old star of Disney’s upcoming live-action remake, is facing a fierce backlash after lashing out at Donald Trump and his supporters following his presidential victory.

With the film slated to hit theaters in March 2025, some are wondering if Zegler’s strong opinions might overshadow the movie itself.

Rachel Zegler’s Trump rant

Rachel Zegler didn’t hold back when it came to voicing her dismay over Donald Trump’s latest election win. The outspoken actress took to her Instagram Stories in a flurry of posts that had some of her 2.3 million followers scratching their heads.

Following the news that Trump had clinched both the popular vote and the electoral college, Zegler pushed back in disbelief and frustration.

"I find myself speechless in the midst of this," she said. "May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace. Another four years of hatred, leaning us towards a world I do not want to live in. Leaning us towards a world that will be hard to raise my daughter in."

According to her, Kamala Harris' loss was "one that should not have been, and it certainly should not have been by so many votes."

"There is a deep sickness in this country shown in the sheer amount of people who showed up for this man who threatens our democracy," she continued. "It is terrifying the number of people who stand behind what this man preaches."

The Snow White actress also aimed billionaire Elon Musk, a vocal Trump supporter and major campaign donor.

“Get off of Elon’s app,” she urged her followers, referring to Musk’s platform X (formerly Twitter). “I don’t use that app for a reason. He helped get that man elected and you’re giving him business.”

Internet calls for boycott amid comparisons to Gina Carano's firing

With Rachel Zegler’s comments making waves, Donald Trump supporters are already mobilizing for a boycott of Disney’s Snow White. Many are drawing comparisons to another Hollywood controversy: Gina Carano’s firing from The Mandalorian in 2021.

Carano, known for playing the tough-as-nails Cara Dune on 'The Mandalorian', was at the center of a major storm after a series of social media posts landed her in hot water.

Lucasfilm called her comments “abhorrent and unacceptable,” and made it clear that she’s no longer part of their plans. A spokesperson from Lucasfilm put it bluntly: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future.”

This came hot on the heels of the trending hashtag #FireGinaCarano which blew up on X. The backlash started after Carano shared a controversial Instagram story that many considered to be antisemitic.

In the now-deleted post, Carano drew a comparison between the political climate in the US and the treatment of Jewish people during the Holocaust. She suggested that "hating someone for their political views" was akin to the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany - an analogy that didn’t sit well with her critics

That wasn't the first time Carano has found herself engulfed in controversy. Back in November 2020, 'Star Wars' fans were already calling for her removal after she posted several messages in support of then-president Donald Trump. Carano didn’t hold back her thoughts on the election, aligning with Trump’s repeated claims of voter fraud.

“We need to clean up the election process so we are not left feeling the way we do today. Put laws in place that protect us against voter fraud,” she tweeted. As if that wasn’t enough, Carano also made waves for mocking mask-wearing during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a heartfelt interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Carano opened up about how the firing impacted her. “I just laid down and cried and cried. I curled into a fetal position,” she recalled.

Carano was let go by Disney in a decision that sparked outrage across the internet.

"Gina Carano was fired for less," one posted on X following Zegler's remarks.

"Meanwhile Gina Carano gets booted without hesitation. Disgusting. I'll never support Disney," another fumed.

"'I’m speechless' Rachel Zegler Proceeds to write lengthy, unoriginal, whiny F-Donald Trump screed. Gina Carano was fired for MUCH less. What is @Disney

doing?" a third user wondered.

"Gina Carano was fired for saying we should be kind to our neighbors. It was the most egregiously ridiculous public firing in recent memory. Absolutely horrible what Disney did," someone else wrote.

"Rachel Zegler is unhinged and a liability to $DIS. They should permanently shelve Snow White and distance themselves from her. Her involvement with the company alienates millions of people and poisons the brand overall. The board has a fiduciary responsibility to step in and shut this down," read a comment.

"I love that these self-absorbed, petulant children are just providing more and more fuel to the @ginacarano lawsuit against Disney," another offered.

The backlash is already creating a PR headache for Disney, which has yet to publicly respond to the growing calls for action.

Rachel Zegler’s history of strong opinions

This isn’t the first time Rachel Zegler has stirred the pot with her unbridled remarks. 'The Hunger Games' star previously made headlines in 2022 when she excoriated the original 1937 'Snow White' animated film.

During an interview with Extra TV that year, Zegler didn’t hold back her disdain for the classic movie’s portrayal of women. “The original cartoon came out in 1937, and very evidently so,” she remarked.

“There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird. So we didn’t do that this time.”

Zegler’s take on Snow White has been a point of contention for fans who cherish the original film’s traditional storyline. In another interview with Variety, Zegler revealed that her version of the character would not be "dreaming of true love" but instead aspiring to become a “fearless leader," the Daily Mail reported.
