NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Don Lemon announced his decision to leave X (formerly Twitter) with a video message on the social media platform on Wednesday, November 13, reported Independent.

Former CNN host explained that he no longer believed that X provided a space for “honest debate and discussion, transparency and free speech,” which is further highlighted by a change in the terms of service of the company.

Known for his liberal views, Lemon has previously clashed with the platform's owner Elon Musk, who has become a prominent face for MAGA over the last few years. He filed a lawsuit against the tech billionaire over a failed talk show that was supposed to air on the platform, accusing the latter of fraud, negligent misrepresentation, misappropriation of his name and likeness, and a breach of express contract.

Don Lemon's message on leaving X

In the video uploaded by Don Lemon on Wednesday bearing the caption "Here's why I'm leaving Twitter," the host of 'The Don Lemon Show' announces, "I have loved connecting with all of you on Twitter and then on X for all of these years, but it’s time for me to leave the platform."

“I once believed that it was a place for honest debate and discussion, transparency and free speech, but I now feel it does not serve that purpose.”

Lemon proceeded to express his concern with the company's new terms of service, which "among other things, states that 'All disputes ... be brought exclusively in the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas or state courts located in Tarrant County, Texas."

"As the Washington Post recently reported on X's decision to change the terms, this ensures that such lawsuits will be heard in courthouses that are a hub for conservatives, which experts say could make it easier for X to shield itself from litigation and punish critics. I think that speaks for itself," noted Lemon.

He concluded by assuring his followers that he would continue to be present on other media platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and Bluesky.

"Go away then, nobody cares," echoed a fourth with a meme.

"This is not an airport, you don't have to announce when you leave," jibed a fifth.

"I’m devastated. I’m taking the day off of work," read another sarcastic comment.
