Donald Trump explains Alvin Bragg's 'dilemma' in 'witch hunt' case against him

Trump's unverified assertion about Bragg wanting to drop the hush money case against him was made in a Truth Social post on Thursday, May 17.

"People are thinking that [George] Soros backed D.A., Alvin Bragg, who never wanted to bring the Witch Hunt against me in the first place, is going to drop this ridiculous and very unpatriotic 'Case' in order to save lots of money, and also the self-respect of his once revered Office," he wrote.

"He would then be able to focus on Violent Crime, which is running rampant and totally out of control in New York," Trump shared.

Citing pressure from Merchan, Trump wrote, "The dilemma is, and always has been, the Trump Hating (appointed in 2009 & still acting!) Judge, Juan Merchan, who would be confronted with the problem of how he would explain this Trump loss, to the Radical Left Democrats, to whom he owes so much?"

"Bring back 'Justice in America.' Election Interference!!!" he concluded the post.

Inside Donald Trump's ongoing hush money trial

Despite these assertions, there is no substantiated evidence to support Trump's claims that Bragg is considering dropping the hush money trial.

The 77-year-old politician currently remains under a gag order that prevents him from public commentary on the trial's witnesses as the court proceedings are ongoing.

The hush money case stemmed from accusations against Trump for allegedly falsifying his business records to conceal payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels to not disclose their alleged affair before the 2016 election.

The former president who has consistently denied any criminal wrongdoing in the case has labeled the trial a political "witch hunt" to prevent him from campaigning for the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

Former President Donald Trump listens as his attorney Todd Blanche speaks during a press conference at 40 Wall Street after a pre-trial hearing on March 25, 2024 in New York City. Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump's criminal trial to begin on April 15, which would make it the first criminal prosecution of a former American president. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 election. Donald Trump criticized for claiming Alvin Bragg wants to drop hush money case

Reacting to Trump's claim that Bragg is considering dropping the hush money case, one user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, "Which people are thinking that? Somebody outside the MAGA cage? Nobody normal is thinking that."

"I am not so sure the witch hunters thought this out very carefully," a user tweeted and another user wrote, "Don’t worry, it’s not going to get dropped."

One user wrote, "Or…Trump could just testify and clear this whole thing up. But of course he won’t, because unlike here, lying won’t work on the witness stand. He can bloviate lies all day outside the courtroom—but try it under oath and see what happens."

"I don't think so, The show must go on. this case against you is a strong case and we will get to the bottom of it, This is not Election Interference, Donald, you're entirely to blame," opined another netizen.
