WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump Jr slammed Democrats on X for blocking Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding, blaming the impasse for airport security disruptions caused by the partial government shutdown that started in February 2026.

The standoff reflects fierce partisan battles over immigration policies. While Republicans push full funding for ICE and border security, Democrats fight for limits on deportations, leaving DHS workers unpaid and Senate votes repeatedly deadlocked.

Don Jr blames Dems for nationwide disruptions amid DHS shutdown

Donald Trump Jr attacked Democrats on X, claiming they are putting “illegal aliens” ahead of American citizens and calling the move typical of the party. He wrote, “This is on brand for Democrats. There is no group of people who will fight harder to put the interests of illegal aliens ahead of American citizens.”

He shared a post from Rapid Response 47 blaming Democrats for the nationwide disruptions because they “repeatedly declined to fund @DHSgov.” The post included reports from multiple news outlets showing the impact of the shutdown on airports.

In Houston, flyers faced security lines that stretched up to three hours as the partial government shutdown took a toll on TSA staffing.

At Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, passengers experienced even longer delays, waiting as much as five hours before boarding their flights, highlighting growing frustration with the understaffed TSA workforce.

Meanwhile, at LaGuardia Airport in New York, massive lines at TSA checkpoints extended all the way to the parking lot, creating major congestion for travelers trying to reach their gates.

In New Orleans, Sunday morning brought similar chaos, with long security lines causing widespread delays for passengers as the shutdown continued to disrupt airport operations nationwide.

Trump says he will send ICE to help with airport security

Meanwhile on Saturday, March 21, Trump said that he will send federal immigration officers to help with airport security starting Monday, March 23, unless Democrats agree to pass a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security.

Trump took to social media to share that he plans to move officers from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) into airports if the political disagreement continues.

After the Senate failed to reach an agreement during a rare weekend session, Trump insisted on the plan, writing that “ICE is ready to go on Monday” and telling them to “GET READY. NO MORE WAITING, NO MORE GAMES!” from his weekend in Florida.

The decision seems designed to increase immigration enforcement, a key issue in the ongoing fight in Congress.

Democrats have vowed to block DHS funding unless changes are made after a series of controversial shootings involving ICE agents in Minnesota, where two US citizens were killed, and there were calls for marked IDs for federal officers, new conduct rules, and greater use of judicial warrants.

Trump added that if Democrats do not support what he called proper airport security, ICE will do the job “better than ever before.”
