WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump grabbed headlines after delivering a wild update on the cost of eggs during a surprise mini-presser at the White House on Friday, April 18.

The commander-in-chief, 78, was speaking to reporters following the swearing-in of physician-turned-TV host, Dr Mehmet Oz, who has taken over the reins as administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

But instead of sticking to Medicare talk, Trump rambled about the price of eggs, People reported.

Donald Trump cracks his own egg theory

Donald Trump gave Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins a little shoutout, saying she’s doing “a great job,” before claiming that egg prices "are down 87%, but nobody talks about that."

“You can have all the eggs you want. We have too many eggs. In fact, if anything, the prices are getting too low. So I just want to let you know that the prices are down," he declared.

According to the Department of Agriculture, the actual wholesale price of eggs on April 19 was $3.13. For context, eggs cost $5.90 a dozen back in February and $4.95 in January, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics

The Department of Agriculture said in a statement: “Price levels to the consumer have eased considerably from early-year highs but remain at levels not yet conducive to more than normal purchases needs.”

During the same April 18 press gaggle, the POTUS waxed poetic about the early egg hysteria that greeted him on day one of his return to the White House.

“By the way, prices are down. Groceries are down,” he said confidently. “Eggs, which they—you hit me so hard. I’ll never forget the first day, the first week in office, they were screaming at me about eggs.”

“I said, ‘What’s going on with eggs?’” he recalled. “They were doubling and tripling. I said, ‘I just got here.’ They were up like double, triple, and you couldn’t get any," said the president.

Trump added, “They said you won’t have eggs for Easter. Well, you can have all the eggs you want.”

Internet roasts Donald Trump over egg prices claim

Donald Trump's critics, however, weren't buying his latest claim that egg prices are "getting too low."

"I just came home from grocery shopping. I don’t know where he is buying his eggs, but they are still expensive where I live!" one posted on X.

"He tells the stupidest lies," a second user wrote.

"Well, this makes him look like an idiot. How many stores do you think he’s shopped at in his life??" another wondered.

"If your grandfather was in a care home & babbled the complete s**t & nonsense that he does. You would be seriously worried about his mental health," read a comment.

"I’m just….I don’t even know at this point lol like I’ve never seen someone lie sooooo much and with so much ease it’s insane," someone else offered.

"It’s incredible that nearly every day that man says something that causes me to think he’s probably one of the dumbest human beings ever to be born in this country," another added.
