STEVENS POINT, WISCONSIN: Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff has revealed details about the moment he discovered that his wife, Vice President Kamala Harris, would be the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee in the 2024 election.

Harris initiated her campaign earlier this month, following an endorsement from President Joe Biden, who declared on July 21 that he would not run for re-election.

The announcement of his withdrawal from the race surprised many, including Emhoff, who learned of the news and his wife's bid for the presidency after a workout session.

Doug Emhoff shared the story of receiving the news in a video on his Instagram account on July 29.

He mentioned that he was in Los Angeles on July 21 due to his flight being canceled. "I had another free morning in LA that Sunday. And I thought I'd just go to an exercise-cycling class with some friends of mine," he reminisced about a recent event for Harris' campaign.

Emhoff went on to say, "I left my phone in the car with the (security) detail. So I was there for 20 minutes or so, and all of a sudden one of the friends shows me his phone and said, 'I think you need to look at this.'"

Emhoff, a lawyer by profession, told the audience that it is a common practice in his field to read the end of a document first.

"And the last thing it said, 'And I will address the nation later in the week,'" Emhoff remarked, noting his belief that the president was merely providing an update on his COVID-19 diagnosis from earlier in the month.

Then his friend told him to go back and read the first sentence. (The president said he would "stand down" in his re-election campaign in the paragraph that came before Biden's announcement that he would address the nation.)

He said, "And then I said to the guys, 'We got to go!'" to the laughter of the assembly.

Emhoff made a joke in the caption, writing, "Never leaving my phone in the car again."

Doug Emhoff provided more details about that day during his appearance on an organizing call for gay and queer Black men on July 25, the Los Angeles Times reported.

He said that he was enjoying coffee with his friends following a cycling class when the announcement was made.

Emhoff said, "Of course, I didn’t have my phone, so I ran and ran and got into our car, and of course, my phone is just on fire, and it’s basically, ‘Call Kamala,’ ‘Call Kamala,’ ‘Call Kamala,’ from everyone. And of course, the first thing she said was, ‘Where the ... were you? I need you."
