CHICAGO, ILLINOIS:  Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff's reaction to wife Vice President Kamala Harris’ unexpected onstage appearance on the opening night of the Democratic National Convention left social media buzzing with excitement.

The Democratic nominee, who was initially expected to attend the DNC on Monday, August 19, merely as a spectator for President Joe Biden's speech, stunned attendees when she stepped onto the stage to deliver brief but powerful remarks.

As Kamala Harris made her entrance, cameras quickly panned to her husband, Doug Emhoff, who was seated alongside her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. The two men’s expressions of shock and delight were captured in real-time, with Emhoff even mouthing, "I didn’t know."

Kamala Harris' electrifying speech ignites the DNC crowd

Kamala Harris' brief two-minute speech was met with a standing ovation, as she expressed gratitude to Joe Biden for his leadership and praised the diverse crowd.

"Joe, thank you for your historic leadership, for your lifetime of service to our nation, and for all you will continue to do," said the vice president, stressing, "We are forever grateful to you."

Further, Harris gushed over the crowd calling them the "beauty of our great nation" with people from "every corner" of the country. "Let us always remember, when we fight, we win," chanted the Democratic nominee.

As Harris exited the stage to the tune of Beyonce’s 'Fire', a song that has become synonymous with her campaign, the energy in the room was palpable. The song, which was also used during the Black Lives Matter movement following George Floyd's 2020 murder, resonated deeply with the audience.

When Harris declared, "When we fight, we win," the crowd echoed back with a unified chant of "We win." She is set to deliver a more extensive speech on Thursday night, marking the conclusion of the four-day convention.
