WASHINGTON, DC: As the US gears up for another heated election season, one staple of political satire is sure to return to the small screen: Saturday Night Live's (SNL) uncanny impressions of political figures.

For many viewers, the anticipation of who will portray key politicians is a highlight of the election year. In this context, Maya Rudolph’s reprisal of her role as Vice President Kamala Harris is generating significant buzz, particularly with Harris' new status as a presidential nominee.

However, a recent interview has added an unexpected twist to the conversation, as Doug Emhoff, Harris’ husband, weighed in on who might play him on the iconic sketch show.

Doug Emhoff offers suggestion for his character on 'Saturday Night Live'

In an interview with Esquire, Doug Emhoff was asked about Maya Rudolph’s much-loved portrayal of Kamala Harris and whether there was anything more she could add to her impression.

Emhoff’s response quickly set the internet abuzz: "Yes, they need a good Doug character. So, I'm thinking Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Chris Hemsworth, you know, people who look exactly like me [laughs]."

The Second Gentleman’s humorous suggestion of Hollywood’s leading men like Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, and Chris Hemsworth stirred excitement among fans and added fuel to the ongoing conversation about potential 'SNL' castings.

While Emhoff was clearly joking about being portrayed by some of the industry's most handsome stars, his comments have only heightened the speculation and intrigue surrounding SNL's upcoming season.

Rudolph’s portrayal of Harris, affectionately dubbed "Mamala" by fans, is expected to be a central feature in SNL's political sketches during the 2024 election cycle.

With Harris now a presidential nominee, her character will likely receive even more screen time, making the inclusion of an Emhoff character a logical next step. Emhoff’s light-hearted take on who should step into the role only adds to the anticipation.

Notably, Emhoff has been making headlines for another reason recently. A detail from his past resurfaced in the media, bringing a more serious tone to the conversation surrounding him.

Emhoff recently addressed an affair he had during his first marriage, which had become a topic of discussion after being reported by Daily Mail.

In a statement provided to CNN, Emhoff acknowledged the affair, explaining that it was a challenging time in his life and that he had taken responsibility for his actions.

"During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side," Emhoff stated.

The affair, which reportedly involved one of his then-young daughter’s teachers, was said to be the reason for the end of his first marriage.
