Speaking to guests Joy Behar and Susie Essman about her divorce, Barrymore shared, “I don’t think I have fully recovered from that.”

"I was so invested in that plan,” she said, referring to her vision of a stable family life with Kopelman, 46, and their two daughters, Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10.

Barrymore acknowledged that co-parenting has bound her and Kopelman together for life.

“We’ve grown a lot through the last 14 years of our union with our kids,” she said, adding that while raising children together has been rewarding, the personal toll of their separation has been immense.

Behar chimed in, noting, “You never get rid of them, once you have a kid,” a sentiment Barrymore agreed with.

Drew Barrymore opens up on struggles with addiction and self-care

Drew Barrymore has been open about her struggles with addiction, which resurfaced during her divorce.

In a 2022 interview with People, she described turning to alcohol as a way to numb her pain.

“It was just trying to numb the pain and feel good — and alcohol totally did that for me,” she admitted.

Reflecting on her journey, she added, “After the life I planned for my kids didn’t work out, I almost think that was harder than the stuff I went through as a kid.”

The actress emphasized how her focus on her children left little room for self-care.

“It was about these kids that I cared so much about. And then I probably cared so much that I wasn’t taking care of myself,” she shared.

Drew Barrymore is moving forward amid change

While Will Kopelman has moved on, marrying Vogue fashion editor Alexandra Michler in 2021, Drew Barrymore has chosen to focus on her children and personal healing.

She revealed to AARP that her daughters have encouraged her to start dating, but past experiences make her cautious.

“They also know how I felt when men were around when I was little — it didn’t feel safe to me,” Barrymore said, explaining her hesitation.

Barrymore, who has been married three times, admitted that her divorce from Kopelman was uniquely challenging.
