THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS: Queen Maxima of the Netherlands has broken her silence after allegations surfaced that she mocked President Donald Trump during his visit to the country.

A few days ago, the queen went viral after a short clip appeared to show her mimicking Trump’s mouth movements while standing next to him and her husband, King Willem-Alexander, during a conversation at Paleis Huis ten Bosch in The Hague.



 

Queen Maxima says she did not mock Donald Trump

Now, the 54-year-old has addressed the incident, telling Dutch news outlet AD, as reported by the Daily Beast, that her facial expression was not intended to mock the US president. “I said ‘thank you’ to someone who had helped,” she explained.

Maxima added that meeting Trump was “a pleasant experience,” and shared that she and the king’s eldest daughter, Dutch Crown Princess Amalia, thought it was “really cool” to meet the American leader.

Donald Trump felt ‘great’ during his visit to the Netherlands

Trump was in the Netherlands to attend the annual NATO summit, held on June 24–25.

During a photo op, while giving a thumbs-up, Trump remarked, “This is a picture we want.” King Willem then asked, “I hope you slept well,” to which the president replied, “It was great.”

At the end of the exchange, Maxima said, “Thank you very much,” while seemingly mimicking Trump’s mannerisms, exaggerating her gestures by stretching her lips and tightening her face, which some interpreted as mockery.

Netizens shocked by Queen Maxima’s apparent mockery of Donald Trump

The moment soon went viral one X user tweeted, “Did she really do that? Queen Maxima of the Netherlands is believed to be mocking US President Donald Trump, per this video and social media comments.”



 

The second user joked, “OMG, I love it!!! 😂😂😂”



 

The third one said, “Apparently she is known to have a great sense of humor. The appear to be having a good time.”



 

An individual on a serious note added, “She owes the President an apology. What a disgrace.”



 

But another individual claimed, “Clearly you haven't seen a lot of speech from our queen, that's just a facial tick. She even does that in some other speeches of her. No harm intended.”

Fox News contributor calls Queen Maxima ‘Queen Minima’ over viral Donald Trump clip

Fox News contributor Raymond Arroyo weighed in on the now-viral footage of Queen Maxima, saying, “She’s clearly making fun of his mouth, you know, doing the Trump lip thing.”

Arroyo went on to warn, “She better be careful, you know. She could get a personalized bunker buster from Daddy Trump if she’s not really careful.”

He then quipped, “She’s going to go from Queen Maxima to Queen Minima if she’s not standing on protocol in the future,” as reported by HuffPost.
