'Effortlessly funny': Internet abuzz as Kourtney Kardashian pokes fun at Kim's diamond earring meltdown

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kim Kardashian had a meltdown over a diamond earring about 13 years ago, and her sister, Kourtney Kardashian isn't willing to let her forget the moment anytime soon.

On Sunday, April 7, Kourtney, the eldest of the Kardashian-Jenner sisters, poked fun at the time her younger sibling broke down in tears after losing a $75,000 earring.

Taking to her Instagram, the 44-year-old Poosh founder recalled the infamous fiasco, with the caption, "My diamond earring came off in the ocean and it’s gone." Kourtney also shared two photos of herself enjoying a dip in the sea. 

Kim Kardashian lost a diamond earring during a trip to Bora Bora

Currently, Kourtney is vacationing with Kim and Khloe Kardashian in Turks and Caicos, from where she posted the pictures of her rocking a black bikini, as per Page Six.

Through the caption, the Lemme founder made a direct reference to Kim losing her $75,000 diamond earring during a family vacation to Bora Bora in 2010, after her then-boyfriend Kris Humphries threw her into the water. 

Kim's meltdown over the lost earring went viral after it was featured in Season 6 of 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians'. In the episode, which was originally aired in 2011, Kim screamed, "My earring’s gone!" before breaking down in tears.

The SKIMS founder continued, "My diamond earring came off in the ocean!" Kourtney, who has always dealt with adverse situations using logic and reason, came out of her villa to say, "Kim, there’s people that are dying."

Following Kourtney’s hilarious jab at Kim, their mother, Kris Jenner, commented, "Kourtney there are people that are dying eldest daughter’s post," recalling her eldest daughter's deadpan reaction to her sibling's meltdown. 

In a November 2023 GQ interview, Kim talked about the fiasco in detail. While responding to a fan's question surrounding the incident, the SKIMS founder expressed, "This gets so old. Any time I’m in water, people will ask me if I found my diamond earring in the ocean."

She further shared, "I don’t know if I showed this on our show, but Kylie [Jenner] found the earring. So, she dove into the ocean, put on goggles, found it, and then she went back and found the back of it. That’s how clear the water is in Bora Bora, so, guys, the earring has been found." 

"It was found in 2010. If anyone’s going to Bora Bora searching for gold and diamonds, [it’s] not there," asserted the businesswoman.
