LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are mourning the loss of their cherished dog, Augie, who died on Friday, May 16, after 12 years as part of their family.

The former talk show host, 67, shared the sad news with her followers on Instagram, posting a touching tribute alongside a series of photos capturing Augie’s life with the couple, reports People.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi say goodbye to beloved dog Augie after 12 years

“We had to say goodbye to Augie yesterday. We rescued him 12 years ago and he was so grateful,” Ellen DeGeneres wrote. “He gave us so much love. He will be missed. There will never be another like him.”

The slideshow featured heartwarming snapshots of Augie cuddled up with de Rossi, 52, and lounging peacefully around their home. The post quickly drew emotional responses from fans and friends, including messages from Courteney Cox and longtime producer Andy Lassner.

Augie, who had been returned to the shelter twice before de Rossi and DeGeneres adopted him, became a beloved fixture in their lives. On National Pet Rescue Day in 2021, de Rossi recalled their first days with Augie, calling him “the best dog I’ve ever had don’t tell the others!”

Just days after his death, DeGeneres posted a video of herself, de Rossi, and Augie that had been filmed in April to promote her skincare line, Kind Science. “Thank you for all of your kind messages about Augie. We filmed this last month and planned to post it today,” she wrote. “We love you, Augie.”
