LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have successfully sold their luxurious California mansion for an eye-popping $96 million, as reported by The Daily Mail.

The sale marks one of the most significant real estate deals in Santa Barbara County, eclipsing the previous record set by DeGeneres herself when she purchased the property in 2022 for $70 million.

Ellen DeGeneres has recently sold one of her most notable Los Angeles properties for an eye-popping $96 million, making a substantial $26 million profit from the price she acquired the sprawling estate just two years prior.

The 66-year-old comedian bought the expansive Carpinteria estate in two separate transactions in 2022.

Located in the picturesque town of Carpinteria, the Tuscan-style estate sprawls over 10 acres and offers over 9,000 square feet of living space. The mansion boasts five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, high exposed wood-beam ceilings, and elegant stone archways.

The primary suite includes a spa-equipped terrace and dual walk-in closets, epitomizing luxury. The estate’s prime location near Santa Barbara and Montecito features a private beach, adding to its allure.

The buyer of the blufftop home is an entity linked to mining magnate Robert Friedland, who appears to have engaged in a real estate swap with the celebrity couple. Records show that DeGeneres and de Rossi repurchased a Santa Barbara home they had sold to Friedland earlier this year for $32 million. They also acquired a vacant three-acre lot adjacent to the property for an additional $6 million.

Is Ellen DeGeneres stepping away from showbiz?

While DeGeneres continues to make waves in the real estate market, she recently announced her decision to step away from showbiz. The 66-year-old comedian is currently on her farewell tour, titled 'Ellen's Last Stand... Up', with her final performances set to be filmed for a Netflix special.

On stage in Santa Rosa last month, DeGeneres humorously addressed her departure, stating that she was "done" with the entertainment industry after the release of her special. She quipped about her exit, "I got kicked out of show business for being mean," and assured fans that this would be her last public appearance.

As she prepares to exit the spotlight, DeGeneres leaves behind a legacy in both television and real estate, with her latest property sale serving as a final grand gesture in her illustrious career.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s recent sale of their California mansion for a staggering $96 million has ignited a flurry of online commentary. The couple’s decision to offload the expansive property, which they purchased for $70 million in 2022, has elicited a range of reactions from social media users.

One commenter noted, “A $90 million home perched on a cliff above the Pacific. With erosion and CA earthquakes, it sounds like a smart selling move on her part and a questionable one on the buyer’s part.”

Another user expressed frustration with the environmental impact, writing, “Why do these ‘celebrities’ need to leave such a huge footprint? Environmentally conscious they are not.”

The sale also drew criticism related to DeGeneres’ exit from show business.

“She says she’s done with show business; I think it’s more like the people who support show business are done with her,” one user remarked.

Further skepticism was voiced by another user who questioned the authenticity of celebrity home ownership: “These celebrities are always buying and selling houses, do they ever buy a house to make it a home? I bought my home in 1988, it’s where I brought my son up and created wonderful memories. These large structured homes look cold and unwelcoming.”

Additionally, another comment conveyed discontent with DeGeneres’ move, stating, “She'll move out of the state quietly, leaving the mess that she supported.”
