WASHINGTON, DC: Elon Musk has offered his predictions for the future of America’s political landscape, and they may be chilling for the left.

At a private reunion of DOGE insiders late last month, the billionaire joined via video and declared that the US is entering a “great 12-year span.”

According to Politico, Musk predicted that once Donald Trump completes his second presidency in 2028, the baton will pass to Vice President JD Vance for two consecutive terms.

Secret Texas DOGE reunion reveals Elon Musk’s 2028 election outlook

The closed-door DOGE get-together took place on November 22 inside a Musk-owned building near his Boring Company and SpaceX facilities in Bastrop, Texas. Roughly 150 current and former members of the Department of Government Efficiency attended with their families.

Musk joined virtually, telling the crowd he stayed home because of safety concerns due to threats to his life. It’s worth noting that JD Vance is already considered the favorite for the 2028 GOP nomination. Even Secretary of State Marco Rubio has reportedly told confidants that Vance looks like frontrunner material.

However, new polling shows Vance’s once-massive 20-point lead over the next strongest contender, Donald Trump Jr, is beginning to tighten.

Trump sparks 2028 buzz as he hints at JD Vance–Marco Rubio ticket

At a White House Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Donald Trump fueled speculation about the 2028 ticket. He glanced at JD Vance as he told the room, “Could be a couple of people sitting at this table,” adding that he wanted their work “to be carried forward.”

This followed his October 27 mid-air remarks aboard Air Force One during a flight between Malaysia and Japan, where he called a Vance–Marco Rubio ticket “unstoppable.”

At the same time, the president has repeatedly flirted with the idea of running for a third term, which would directly violate the 22nd Amendment. “I would love to do it,” he told reporters. “Am I not ruling it out? You’ll have to tell me,” he teased. “All I can tell you is that we have a great, a great group of people, which they don’t.”

Longtime Trump chronicler Jonathan Karl suggested that Trump and former chief strategist Steve Bannon, who first floated the third-term idea, are simply stirring the pot.

“I do think that the reason why he keeps bringing up Trump 2028, he’s got the hats he shows everybody… it is absolutely trolling,” Karl said on Thanksgiving during an MS Now 'Morning Joe' appearance. “And frankly, Steve Bannon, who was the one that really started to get this going, is trolling not just Trump’s critics and Democrats; he’s also trolling JD Vance. Bannon, privately, not a big JD Vance fan at all.”

JD Vance hints at 2028 plans after midterms

Last month on Fox News, the Vance gave host Sean Hannity a hint of where his head is at.

“I try to put it out of my head and remind myself the American people elected me to do a job right now,” he said, before acknowledging that once the 2026 midterms wrap, “I’m going to sit down with the president of the United States and talk to him about it.”
