WASHINGTON, DC: Elon Musk ignited a fresh controversy on Sunday, July 5, over who should stay in the country and who should be thrown out by replying to a post saying it was okay to love America.

Musk has occasionally used his platform to state that people who do not "love America" or are disloyal to the country should be removed.

Elon Musk says traitors should be expelled

Reality TV personality Spencer Pratt made an X post late on July 4, saying that it was "ok to love America," to which Elon Musk replied that it wasn’t merely "ok" and that those who don’t love America are traitors and beneath contempt.

The trillionaire, who has been a big cheerleader of President Donald Trump’s strict immigration policy, added, “Those who don’t love America, those who are disloyal, should be exiled immediately.”

Musk strongly supports Trump’s strict measures against illegal immigration but publicly opposes crackdowns on high-skilled legal immigration.

While he agrees with closing borders and deporting criminals, he is a vocal advocate for the H-1B visa program, arguing that restricting talented tech workers hurts US innovation.

The South African-born engineer and tech entrepreneur was named by Trump as a “special government employee,” and the head of a now-terminated entity under the administration called the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE.

DOGE officially ended on July 4

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) officially ended on July 4 as federal agencies moved to reverse Elon Musk-era workforce cuts and ramp up hiring across the government.

The shift marks a sharp turnaround after hundreds of thousands of federal employees left voluntarily or were fired during the sweeping downsizing drive.

DOGE was officially terminated under the executive order that created the cost-cutting project, bringing an end to the Musk-led effort that tore through the federal workforce during President Donald Trump's first months back in office last year.

Musk, a former White House senior advisor and current CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, slashed thousands of jobs while heading DOGE. He stepped down from the role on May 30, 2025.
