Elton John calls fatherhood 'greatest thing' ever, says LGBTQ+ parents deserve 'applause'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Elton John, 77, is embracing life as a father in his later years.
The legendary musician, who shares two sons, Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11, with his husband David Furnish, calls it the "greatest thing" he has ever done.
Elton John cherishes fatherhood in his later years
During a November 14 appearance on 'Radio Andy' to promote 'The Eyes of Tammy Faye' on Broadway, Elton John reflected on the joys of raising his children and the challenges of being an older parent.
When asked by host Andy Cohen about becoming a father later in life, John described it as the most fulfilling part of his journey. "It's the greatest thing I've ever done," he said.
John further shared, "For me personally, I've had an amazing life, great career, incredible achievements, music, blah, blah, blah, but I would say that our sons, and David, are the most important things to me."
John also highlighted how fatherhood influenced his decision to retire from touring.
"It's why I came off the road, to be able to spend the latter part of my life being there for them," the 'Rocket Man' singer said, reported People.
Elton John applauds LGBTQ+ parents
Speaking about his experience as a gay father, Elton John acknowledged the challenges and criticisms faced by LGBTQ+ parents.
"I think anyone who is gay that brings up a child deserves applause because there's so many people that say it shouldn't happen," John said.
He addressed Cohen and fellow dad Anderson Cooper, saying, "Well, of course, it should happen, and I'm sure you've been a great dad. I'm sure Anderson's a great dad."
He added, "For all the other people out there who are gay and have their own children, it's the greatest gift you could possibly have. I've never had a better gift in my life, and I wouldn't swap it for anything."
77-year-old Elton John's children worry about his mortality
As an older parent, Elton John is realistic about the concerns his children may have regarding his age.
In the documentary 'Elton John: Never Too Late', John revealed, "They think about my mortality. They worry about my mortality."
David Furnish, who co-directed the veteran singer's documentary, admitted that these discussions create anxiety for him.
