LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Emma Stone shared in a recent interview that a couple of years ago she “freaked out” over changing her birth name from Emily Jean Stone to her stage name ‘Emma’.

The two-time Oscar-winning actress further admitted during the same interview she “would like to be” addressed by her real name.

Emma Stone wants fans to call her by birth name

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the ‘Cruella’ actress revealed that she missed her birth name and would really like to be addressed by the same.

Sitting beside her ‘Curse’ co-star Nathan Fielder, the ‘La La Land’ actress shared, “I would like to be Emily," per Page Six.

She further added that when she was starting her acting career, she chose the name Emma Stone because another actress bearing the name of Emily Stone was already registered with the SAG-AFTRA.

Nevertheless, the 35-year-old actress now says that she “can’t do” with the stage name anymore.

‘The Poor Things’ actress shared, “Then I freaked out a couple of years ago. For some reason, I was like, ‘I can’t do it anymore. Just call me Emily.'”

She also added that her close friends and colleagues just call her by the acronym of her original name.

Stone continued, “Nathan calls me Em, which is easier.” While she would appreciate if her fans called her Emily, she admitted that she would not correct a fan if they were to call her ‘Emma’.

Emma Stone recounts how she chose her stage name

This is, however, not the first time that the ‘Easy A’ actress opened up about her nomenclature.

Previously, in an interview with W Magazine in 2017, Stone shared how she came up with the name Emma.

She shared that she had to pick her name when she was just 16 years old. Upon learning that there is another Emily Stone registered with the SAG-AFTRA, she was compelled to choose a different name.

Speaking to the magazine, she said, “To ask a 16-year-old to pick a new name is an interesting prospect [...] I was like "I'm going to be Riley. My name is going to be Riley Stone'."

She continued, “So my name was Riley Stone for about six months, and I did a guest spot on 'Malcolm in the Middle' and one day they were like, "Riley, Riley," and I had no idea who they were talking to.”

“They were like, "Hey, hey come on, we need you on set." And I was like "Oh, I'm not Riley, I can't be Riley,"' shared the actress about her epiphany.

Stone continued, “I had the option of Emily J Stone and it's kind of like ['Back To The Future' star] Michael J Fox, and I love Michael J Fox, but I don't think I could pull off the J. So then I changed it to Emma because, you know, it's closer to Emily, but most people call me 'M' that know me well.' Which, we imagine, makes things far easier on a busy film set. But I miss Emily,' she concluded. 'I'd love to get her back,’” per Grazia Magazine.
