KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI: NFL training camp remains all about the battle amongst players for spots on the roster, which occasionally results in some intense altercations.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce jumped to the defense of his teammate Kadarius Toney after the wide receiver was decked during the training camp session on Wednesday, July 24.

Travis Kelce shoves Kansas City Chiefs teammate over 'dirty' move

During the team's practice on Wednesday, quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw the ball out wide to receiver Kadarius Toney, who was hoping to gain extra yards after the catch.

Defenders are intended to square up offensive players before allowing them to continue running rather than taking large hits on them, per Fox News.

However, Toney was laid out on the turf by Chiefs linebacker George Karlaftis, who chose to disregard that consideration. Toney took offense immediately and threw the ball he was carrying at Karlaftis' back, which caused the players to clash.

The majority of the offense, including Kelce, was incensed by the cheap shot because they weren't wearing full pads and the action co have caused an injury.

In response, 25-year-old Toney threw the football toward Karlaftis, just missing the defensive back's head. On the opposite side of the field, Kelce, 34, charged over and conferred with Karlaftis, 23.

Three-time Super Bowl champion Kelce shoved Karlaftis gently after getting in his face and going helmet to helmet. Others intervened to keep the two apart before the situation became more chaotic.

Karlaftis made his way to the sideline, but not before the two exchanged a few more snide remarks. The seasoned tight end, meanwhile, made his way back to the huddle as they got ready for the following play.

Travis Kelce's previous altercations with Chiefs' teammates

Tensions have previously erupted at the start of training camp between Travis Kelce and one of his Chiefs teammates. In July, Kelce punched teammate Jack Cochrane when he attempted to take the ball from him.

Cochrane hit the ball in Kelce's hands after scoring a touchdown, which caused the tight end to take a swipe at his head. The two started shoving and chirping after the near miss, but another teammate intervened to stop them, per Page Six.

Later on, Kelce acknowledged that he had lost his cool and tweeted, "Gotta be a better teammate gotta be a better leader… plain and simple."

Kelce got into several fights at training camp the previous season and was observed shoving his teammates. That culminated in ESPN quoting head coach Andy Reid as saying, "Fighting is a waste of time."

The Chiefs veteran took a few months' break following their 2024 Super Bowl victory before reporting for training camp early this week.

Kelce traveled extensively throughout most of his off-season with girlfriend Taylor Swift, who is wrapping up her global Eras Tour in Europe.

Fans refer to Travis Kelce shoving teammate as 'personal' and 'dirty'

Travis Kelce's heated altercation with his Chiefs' teammate during a training session urged social media users to dub it as "personal" and "dirty."

One X (formerly Twitter) said, "That s**t was personal. Defense getting back at him for all the catches he dropped last seasons"

A user added, "That was payback for dropping all those passes last year"

"You don’t want to injure your own guys during practice. Love GK but that was way off," remarked another.

Another noted, "Wow, just a terrible reaction from Toney and Kelce. It’s sad to see this team fall apart in real time. Someone needs to remind Travis this is football and not the Eras tour."

"Travis Kelce doesn’t approach George like that in any other setting than in open practice!" exclaimed one.

Another said, "Kelce gotta be using roids. Dude always the angriest player"

"Kelce just worried about his PR in front of the cameras regarding Swift. There was no reason for him to get involved there," pointed out another.
