Eva Longoria says her decision to live abroad wasn’t driven by 'political environment'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Eva Longoria has clarified the reasons behind her choice to live abroad, dispelling rumors that her decision was driven by the political situation in the US, especially during Donald Trump's presidency.
The 49-year-old former 'Desperate Housewives' star disclosed in a cover story for Marie Claire's "Age Issue" on Tuesday, November 12, that she has spent the past few years residing between Spain and Mexico with her spouse José Bastón and their son Santiago, aged six.
Eva Longoria clarifies her decision to live abroad was not due to Donald Trump
On Friday, Eva Longoria reiterated that her long-term residence in Europe was for work purposes, not due to the current political climate in the United States, according to PEOPLE.
The revelation occurred when the actress phoned her friend Ana Navarro during the recording of The View's 'Behind the Table' podcast. Navarro, 52, picked up the call and told Longoria, who had phoned for a recipe, that she was recording the podcast.
“Will you please let them know I didn't move out of the United States because of [President-elect Donald] Trump,” Longoria immediately remarked.
Navarro then inquired if they could discuss Longoria's relocation, as it was a topic of conversation during The View's "Hot Topics" segment that same morning. “Actually, your name came up in the discussion," Navarro said. "But you had moved before Trump.”
“I've been in Europe working for 3 years,” Longoria responded. “That’s in the article, by the way, the article says that. People just grabbed some clickbait stuff to be divisive. Which makes me so sad that everything you say is just meant to be divisive when we can't be that way right now.”
The celebrity then confirmed that she, “didn't leave because of the political environment."
Eva Longoria claims she's a 'proud American'
Eva Longoria mentioned that she is in Catalonia and Spain working on her AppleTV+ show, 'Land of Women', and is also working in Mexico on her series 'Searching for Mexico'.
She reiterated her years-long residence in Spain. “I just don't like that it's politicized because the [article’s] author did a really good job talking about my patriotism," she said.
“I'm a proud American. I've always been a proud American. Proud Texan, proud American,” Longoria went on to say. “I didn't want it to be taken that I left because of Trump — absolutely not — or because of the elections.”
“I don't know why people just wanna grab an excerpt to really exploit it." The star then added, prompting Navarro to chime in, “I'll tell you why. It's because I think it's because a lot of people are wishing that they could somehow escape.”
Navarro reiterated that the call between herself and Longoria was not prearranged, as the star of 'Flamin' Hot' mentioned. “I was calling you for tamale day.”
“I haven't come out and said anything because it's in the article. There's nothing to clarify. It's in the article that I've been living in Europe for years," she concluded.
