LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Viral posts circulating online claim that Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, and other celebrities have asked for their footage to be removed from Netflix over LGBTQ content.

Claim: Avril Lavigne asked Netflix to cut scenes over LGBTQ content

A report claiming that Avril Lavigne asked Netflix to cancel her project due to issues with LGBTQ content went viral on October 29 on the social media platform Facebook.

The post originated from the account @AvrilUncovered (archived) and showed a screenshot of an X post allegedly from Lavigne, where she said, “I have asked Netflix to remove all of my scenes from the film because I no longer want to be associated with the project.”

Soon after, on October 30, the website https://flash.feji.io/ reshared the same claim, amplifying the rumor further. It stated: “BREAKING: Avril Lavigпe ‘Caпcels’ Netflix — Demaпds Her Footage Be Cυt From Upcomiпg Docυmeпtary."

Fact Check: False, no evidence to back the viral claim

No, Avril Lavigne has not posted anything asking Netflix to remove her scenes. The screenshot in the viral post, which claims to be from Avril Lavigne's X account, contains a significant error, the handle is shown as @avrillavigne (all lowercase), while her genuine, verified X account uses the capitalized handle @AvrilLavigne.

Lavigne is not the only victim of such misinformation. A Facebook search reveals numerous fake posts falsely attributed to various celebrities, each claiming they asked Netflix to remove their scenes from a film.

The website that resurfaced the rumor wrote, "BREAKING: Avril Lavigne RECOMMENDS NETFLIX to cut all of her footage from a new pop-punk music documentary about her life and creative evolution following her most recent world tour."

It further stated: "The multi-platinum artist has publicly 'CANCELLED NETFLIX' after discovering that the platform was releasing LGBT-themed children's films without strong parental control filters."

The site also added: "According to sources close to Lavigne, the singer is 'deeply disappointed' and believes the platform has 'lost its moral compass.' It also quoted Avril saying, 'I believe in love -- but I also believe in protecting innocence. There's a difference between artistic freedom and planting confusion in young hearts.'"
