WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump has taken some stern decisions and signed executive orders that have sparked debate since he took office in January 2025 for his second run as the POTUS.

Recently, an online rumor claimed that Trump posted on Truth Social that he would annex Alaska and Greenland. But is there any truth to this? Let's find out below.

Claim: Trump posted he would annex Alaska and Greenland

In March 2025, a screenshot circulated online allegedly showing a post from President Donald Trump's Truth Social account.

The alleged post by Trump read, "After I've annexed Greenland and making it the 52nd State, I will annexe Alaska. The people of Alaska don't want to be part of a backward nation in Canada. I will make all Alaskan's rich and prosperous when they become the 53rd State of our mighty country. Nobody in Greenland or Alaska would ever have dreamed of this under Crooked Joe Biden."

The alleged screenshot was shared by several users on X (formerly Twitter). An X account @Blanga shared the screenshot and wrote in the caption, "President Trump thinks Alaska belongs to Canada and plans to annex it as the 53rd state after Canada and Greenland. But if that is the case, shouldn't it already come with Canada as the 51st? This is godlike thinking that us mortals would never be able to understand."

Another X user @KentWolgamott shared the same screenshot and captioned it, "Say what?"

False: Trump did not make any such posts on Truth Social

The claim made in the online rumor is false as the screenshot shared is fake and there is no evidence to prove that Donald Trump made any such posts on Truth Social, according to Snopes.

Moreover, no such post was found within archives of Trump's social media history, which was kept by the political news site Roll Call. Furthermore, a simple Google search also did not show any results or led to any such social media posts by Trump.

Social media platform X also debunked the post as the posts shared by users had a disclaimer that read, "Viral screenshots of such a post are fake. Trump's actual Truth Social account does not have such a post on it and Google hasn't indexed one either."

Proof: Claims in the post are factually incorrect

The claims made in the fake post are factually incorrect as Alaska is not part of Canada and was proclaimed the 49th US state in 1959.

Moreover, on March 10, President Trump posted a Fox News article about Alaska with the headline that read "Alaska leaders cheer Trump oil and gas drilling executive order."

Similarly, in January 2025, Trump issued an executive order reversing limits on drilling activity imposed by former President Joe Biden and opening up oil and gas drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, per the fact-checking outlet.

Meanwhile, Trump called for the US annexation of Greenland.

He wrote in a Truth Social post in January 2025, "I am hearing that the people of Greenland are 'MAGA'. My son, Don Jr, and various representatives, will be traveling there to visit some of the most magnificent areas and sights. Greenland is an incredible place, and the people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our Nation. We will protect it, and cherish it, from a very vicious outside World. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!"

Several Greenlanders gathered in March to protest the president's stated goals of annexing the region.

Greenland's incoming Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen informed the media, "There is not the slightest chance that I will talk to Trump about Greenland becoming part of the US. Greenland will be Greenland."
