BOCA CHICA, TEXAS: Throughout 2024, several rumors have circulated online regarding tech billionaire Elon Musk purchasing a number of major companies, including McDonald's, Amazon, and more. The most recent claim says that the Tesla CEO has acquired Boeing.

It’s important to note that Musk currently serves as the founder and CEO of SpaceX, a space technology company. So, let’s check if the claim behind his latest acquisition of Boeing, the world's largest aerospace company, holds any weight.

Claim: Elon Musk has purchased Boeing

In early November, a YouTube channel, Elon Musk Vault, uploaded a video titled, 'Elon Musk Just Bought Boeing & Destroys All Competition!' The description of the video reads, "What the acquisition may imply for Boeing, SpaceX and the global aerospace sector." Following this, several other YouTube channels shared similar videos, spreading similar claims.

Another YouTube channel, Musk Universe, posted a 25-minute video titled, 'Elon Musk Just BOUGHT Boeing & Ends All Competition in the Aerospace Industry!' Within a day, the video garnered over 3.9K views.

As the video was reposted multiple times with the same claim, many viewers began to revel at Musk's apparent feat, with one commentator stating, "Musk is a game changer... a wonderful human being, a true American leader and genius." Another said, "That is a great move for Musk."

Notably, some viewers even mentioned that Musk's supposed acquisition had prompted them to consider buying Boeing stock.

Fact check: Elon Musk did not buy Boeing

Fact-checking website Snopes debunked the claim that Elon Musk had acquired Boeing. Further investigation revealed that many of the videos pushing the claim show signs of artificial intelligence being involved, including AI-generated audio narration, editing, visuals, and scripting.

Moreover, the video shared by the Elon Musk Vault channel can no longer be viewed, and the page currently displays the message, "This video is no longer available because the YouTube account associated with this video has been terminated." This indicates that the video was not authentic.
