A post shared on X and other platforms alleged that the 83rd Golden Globe Awards saw a 67% drop in viewership, directly attributing it to Ariana Grande not winning the Best Supporting Actress Award. The claim cited Variety magazine as the source.
The post quickly went viral, leading to questions about whether the awards telecast truly experienced such a significant decline.
Fact Check: Golden Globes viewership claim comes from parody account
The claim is false. It originated from a parody X account called Pop Base, which describes itself as “Pob Base is your best source for all parody culture-related entertainment, news, award show coverage, and chart updates.”
A review of Variety’s website shows no reports of any drop in Golden Globe viewership. The site did have an article predicting Ariana Grande to win Best Supporting Actress, but that prediction was for the Oscars, not the Golden Globes.
There are no credible reports of the 2026 Golden Globes’ television ratings. Past year reports suggest only a minor decline of roughly 2%.

On January 11, Ariana Grande attended the 83rd Golden Globes hosted by Nikki Glaser. She wore a floor-length black Vivienne Westwood Couture gown with off-the-shoulder straps, a V-cut back, and a sculptural skirt. She accessorized with a delicate diamond necklace and matching stud earrings.
Grande styled her hair in a high, voluminous ponytail with cascading curls and kept her makeup soft with a light pink lip and minimal eye makeup.
Although Grande was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, the award went to Teyana Taylor for her role in 'One Battle After Another.'
