LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Selena Gomez has recently shared an emotional video over the current political scenario and the ICE deportation carried on by the brand new Donald Trump government.

As the songstress and the Rare Beauty founder took to her Instagram Story on Monday, January 27, to share her heartbreak over the plight of the deported people, a rumor started circulating on social media over fellow singer Lana Del Rey’s alleged words for Gomez.

On the same day, a rumor started gaining traction on social media that the ‘Summertime Sadness’ songstress had allegedly told the Disney alum to “pack her bags” and go back to Mexico.

Claim: Lana Del Rey told Selena Gomez to 'go back to Mexico' after her crying deportation video

Amid the latest political development, Selena Gomez, whose father Ricardo Joel Gomez is of Mexican descent, shared a video on her Instagram, where she apologized to her followers for not being able to do anything to alleviate the situation.

A tearful Gomez said, “I just wanna say I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children, I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”

However, soon a rumor started to float on social media when X user Shaniqua Posting Delusions made a post on the platform that Lana Del Rey confronted the ‘Emilia Perez’ star over her crying deportation video.

Sharing a two-grid image of Gomez and the ‘West Coast’ singer, the user wrote, “BREAKING: Popstar and MAGA supporter Lana Del Rey commented on Selena Gomez’ viral video: “you should pack your bags and go back to Mexico. Take your abuela with you”.”

Since then, the post has received over 4.7 million views and 117k likes.

More than 2k X users commented on the post as well, with a fan even saying, “she's so wild for this.”

Meanwhile, a few users even cast doubts on the truthfulness of the claim, penning, "This can't be true. I want it to be true, but there is no way she'd do that, right?"

Fact Check: Original poster of the claim admitted post was not serious

As several fans started questioning the credibility of the claim, with some even declaring, "Not a chance that happened," community notes allegedly started appearing on the post.

Nevertheless, following a series of speculations, the post was proved to be fake, as no credible source for the claim was found.

A few hours after making the post, the OP, too, made a post clarifying the same. The author, who seemingly made the post as a satire, admitted, "This post was doing generational numbers but the Community Notes nerds had to ruin it."

In their bio as well, the author wrote 'Satire' as a term to describe the channel and its contents.

Thus, with the original poster dispersing the rumor of Del Rey's viral claim, a probable future squabble between the two musical powerhouses has been averted.
