WASHINGTON, DC: A viral social media post claimed that Prince Harry had dropped his bid for US citizenship and was preparing to leave America due to his reported dislike of Donald Trump and the MAGA movement.

The post also included a poll asking users whether they supported permanently exiling him and Meghan Markle, drawing strong reactions from a largely pro-MAGA audience. Many responses expressed frustration over the couple’s presence in the United States.

Claim: Prince Harry dropped his bid for US citizenship

According to a post shared on X by the pro-Trump account @WHLeavitt, Prince Harry had dropped his bid for US citizenship and was ready to leave the country.

The caption stated, "Prince Harry drops his bid for U.S. citizenship says, 'he’s ready to leave the U.S.' Insiders claim that he despises Trump and the MAGA movement."

The post further included a poll asking, "Do you support his permanent exile from the U.S. A. Yes, take his wife and leave for good B. No."

The claim gained traction online following Prince Harry’s unannounced visit to Kyiv, where he spoke at the Kyiv Security Forum. During his remarks, he urged American leadership to step up and emphasized the importance of honoring international commitments related to Ukraine’s security.

He framed his comments as those of a former soldier and humanitarian, rather than as a representative of the UK government. The appearance quickly reignited ongoing tensions between Prince Harry and pro-Trump or MAGA-aligned commentators, with some accounts amplifying the narrative that his views signaled hostility toward Trump and a desire to leave the United States.

Fact Check: Claim about Prince Harry is fake

The claim that Prince Harry had dropped a bid for US citizenship and was preparing to leave the country is false and highly misleading.

The narrative appears to recycle older rumors, misrepresent his long-standing position on citizenship, and exaggerate recent events into an unverified controversy.

There is no credible evidence that he ever submitted a formal “bid,” made any statement about leaving the United States, or that named insiders confirmed hostility toward Donald Trump or the MAGA movement as a motive.

Prince Harry has never publicly applied for US citizenship or permanent residency. In an October 2025 appearance on the 'Hasan Minhaj Doesn't Know' podcast, hosted by Hasan Minhaj, he was asked directly about becoming a US citizen and said he had no plans to do so at that time.

He has not changed that position since. Reports citing royal sources, including coverage from The Times around April 2026, indicated that he had not applied for dual citizenship and was unlikely to pursue a green card.

While he is eligible for permanent residency, earlier comments in 2024 suggested he had only considered the idea and did not view it as a priority. In short, there was no active application to withdraw, and the quotes attributed to him in the viral claim are fabricated.
