LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A claim circulating widely on social media in January 2026 sparked intense discussion by alleging a heated on-air confrontation between actor Tom Hanks and US Attorney General Pam Bondi.

The viral posts claimed the supposed exchange took place on CBS News’ long-running program 60 Minutes, where Hanks allegedly pressed Bondi over her refusal to read a memoir written by one of Jeffrey Epstein’s most prominent accusers.

According to the story, Hanks confronted Bondi directly, accusing her of lacking moral authority if she had not engaged with the account. Social media posts described the alleged moment as a “fiery showdown” and quoted Hanks saying Bondi had “no right to speak in the name of truth” if she had not read the memoir.

The posts were accompanied by images showing Hanks and Bondi seated together at a television news desk, alongside visuals referencing Virginia Giuffre and her book.

Claim: Tom Hanks challenged Pam Bondi over Virginia Giuffre’s memoir

The rumor claimed Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks appeared alongside Pam Bondi on 60 Minutes and publicly confronted her for not reading Nobody’s Girl, a posthumous memoir by Virginia Giuffre.

Giuffre was first trafficked at 16 and became a prominent face of the survivors’ fight for justice. She reportedly died by suicide in April 2025, confirmed by her brother Sky. Her memoir, 'Nobody’s Girl,' was released in October 2025 and detailed the horrors she endured.

Fact Check: The alleged 60 Minutes confrontation never happened

The claim is false. Tom Hanks and Pam Bondi did not appear together on 60 Minutes, and no such confrontation occurred. There is no record of Hanks being interviewed on the program in connection with Bondi, nor any evidence that 60 Minutes aired a segment involving the two.

Analysis by Snopes traced the story to Facebook pages operated by users in Vietnam. Metadata and visual inconsistencies in the images indicated that the content was fabricated using AI tools. The images showing Hanks and Bondi together were AI-generated composites. While Hanks’ likeness appeared convincing, the image of Bondi contained clear inaccuracies. Some posts also included altered versions of Giuffre’s book cover and unrelated photos.

Facebook pages promoting the story, including The News 247 and Beyond The Buzz, linked users to advertisement-heavy WordPress blogs, suggesting the false claims were created to drive traffic and generate revenue.

AI-generated celebrity-political hoaxes on the rise

This is not the first time Tom Hanks or Pam Bondi have been falsely placed at the center of viral political confrontations. Snopes noted similar AI-fueled stories claimed figures such as late-night host Stephen Colbert or former NFL quarterback Tom Brady confronted Bondi over Giuffre’s memoir—none of which were true.

In a separate debunked rumor, Secretary of State Marco Rubio was falsely alleged to have canceled Hanks’ passport and restricted his international travel. The rise of AI-generated images and text has made such hoaxes more convincing, especially on sensitive and emotionally charged topics like the Epstein case.
