Fact Check: Did Zohran Mamdani plan to turn Trump Tower into a homeless shelter?
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A recent post has claimed that newly elected New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani plans to convert Trump Tower into a homeless shelter.
The viral claim surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, November 6, from an account named Pamphlets. It was shared with the caption: “BREAKING – Mamdani Plans To Convert Trump Tower into Homeless Shelter.”
Trump isn’t a fan of Mamdani, and the Democrat has made it clear he feels the same about the president. So, how much truth is actually behind this new claim? Let’s break it down.

The claim began when the social media account Pamphlets posted a collage showing Zohran Mamdani on one side and Trump Tower on the other. They labeled it as “Breaking News” and attached a blog link. The blog carried the headline: “Mamdani Ally Leaks Plans To Convert Trump Tower into Homeless Shelter.”
Inside the blog, the supposed project was referred to as the “Veterans’ Rebirth Compound.” The post has gathered around 5,925 views so far. The X post itself spread much faster and has already reached 1.9 million views within just a few hours.
The blog opens with the claim, “New York’s new mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has announced plans for a state-run luxury rehabilitation compound for homeless and addicted veterans - turning the relics of capitalist greed into centers of recovery, work, and collective renewal.”
Fact Check: Viral claim about Zohran Mamdani and Trump Tower is completely false
There are multiple reasons why the claim about Zohran Mamdani is false. First, Mamdani, who is now the NYC mayor has not issued any statement about such a plan on Instagram, X, or any other platform.
Second, no credible news outlet, including Fox News, BBC News, The New York Post, People, Mediaite, or The Washington Post, has reported anything supporting this claim. Third, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has made no remarks about it.
Fourth, neither Google Trends nor data from Google or X shows any sign of this topic appearing in genuine search or social media activity. Fifth the blog itself provides no actual evidence. Beyond the headline, it never mentions Trump Tower again and offers no direct quote from the supposed insider the title refers to.
Sixth reason, Trump Tower’s official website is active, and several units are currently listed for sale. Nowhere on the site is there any mention of the claim involving Mamdani.
The seventh and last point, Mamdani’s own mayoral campaign platform also makes no mention of Trump Tower. It doesn’t propose converting any occupied residential or mixed-use buildings into homeless shelters either.
And when you open the link attached to the viral post, it becomes clear that the blog doesn’t outline any plan to turn Trump Tower into a shelter. The headline implies it, but the article itself offers nothing to back it up.
