WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump has called on the Justice Department (DOJ) to reexamine the 2020 presidential election, saying it should be investigated with “gusto.” He posted the message on Truth Social on Sunday, October 26.

Trump wrote, “What’s worse, the NBA players cheating at cards, and probably much else, or the Democrats cheating on elections?” He compared cheating in sports and Mafia-linked poker games to the election, calling it “rigged and stolen” and “a far bigger scandal.”

He also warned Republicans to “get smart” and quickly implement stricter voter rules ahead of the November 4 election.

Donald Trump urges DOJ to revisit 2020 election, calls it ‘biggest scandal'

Trump has long claimed voter fraud influenced the 2020 results and renewed his call for a DOJ probe. “I hope the DOJ pursues this with as much ‘gusto’ as befitting the biggest scandal in American history! If not, it will happen again, including the upcoming midterms,” he wrote.

He demanded an end to mail-in and early voting and insisted on voter ID requirements. He also criticized California’s Proposition 50, which aims to reshape the state’s congressional districts. “No mail-in or ‘early’ voting, yes to voter ID! Watch how totally dishonest the California Prop vote is! Millions of ballots being ‘shipped.’ Get smart, Republicans, before it is too late!”

Trump’s renewed call for the DOJ to revisit the 2020 election came shortly after The Wall Street Journal reported that his administration had brought on lawyer Kurt Olsen as a special government employee.

Trump also referenced the NBA gambling scandal, asking, “What’s worse, the NBA players cheating at cards, and probably much else, or the Democrats cheating on elections?”

He added, “The 2020 presidential election, being rigged and stolen, is a far bigger scandal. Look what happened to our country when a crooked moron became our ‘president!’ We now know everything.” His post appeared just days before the November 4 election.

For context, California’s Proposition 50 is a measure that would allow Democrats to override district maps drawn by the state’s independent commission and replace them with new congressional boundaries.

On November 3, 2020, Americans voted in record numbers amid the COVID-19 pandemic, using early, mail-in, and in-person ballots. Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump with 306 electoral votes to Trump’s 232, according to the National Archives.

After the loss, Trump repeatedly claimed that the election was “rigged” and that widespread voter fraud cost him the presidency. These claims included allegations of invalid mail-in ballots, votes by non-citizens, and manipulated voting machines, as reported by PBS.
