Fact Check: Does China have access to the entire Epstein Files?
WASHINGTON, DC: The Department of Justice released a major tranche of Epstein Files on January 30. This included over 3 million additional pages of records, along with more than 2,000 videos and 180,000 images. Subsequent smaller batches emerged in February and March 2026, amid ongoing bipartisan criticism from lawmakers, survivors' advocates, and media outlets.
Recently, a rumor originated online claiming that China might now have access to the entire unredacted Epstein files. But is there any truth to the viral rumor? Let us find out below.
Claim: China has access to entire unredacted Epstein files
In a clip that has gone viral on X, a Chinese lawyer named Victor Gao claimed that China might now have access to the entire unredacted Epstein files.
During an interview with 'The Cradle', he said, "Now it's the perfect time to fully reveal the details of Jeffrey Epstein’s activities and everyone who was involved with him."
The host asks him, "Does China have the files?" and Gao says, "Well, eventually, everything needs to come out to the sun, and wait."
The caption of the viral clip read, "Chinese lawyer - Victor Gao claims that China might now have access to the entire unredacted Epstein files."
Despite the controversies, the 2026 releases of the files represent the most comprehensive public dump of Epstein-related DOJ holdings to date, fueling renewed scrutiny of his network without yielding a singular 'client list' or major new indictments from the materials.
Hosted on the official Epstein Library site at justice.gov/epstein, the files encompass investigative files from Epstein's Florida and New York cases, Ghislaine Maxwell's prosecution, flight logs, communications, financial records, witness interviews, photos, and other evidence spanning decades.
Fact Check: False, no credible evidence to support claim
The claim made in the viral social media post is false, as there is no credible evidence that China has access to the entire Epstein files.
The claim appears to stem from recent social media speculation and viral posts, particularly referencing statements by Chinese lawyer and commentator Victor Gao.
Moreover, no mainstream news outlets, official US government statements, or reliable intelligence reports confirm China obtaining the Epstein files.
Meanwhile, the Epstein files have been publicly released in large tranches by the Department of Justice (DOJ) under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Releases totaled millions of pages, including documents, emails, flight logs, and more, with some redactions for privacy or legal reasons.
Interestingly, Chinese state-affiliated media have amplified Epstein-related stories, but this is narrative manipulation, and not proof of file possession.
