Claim: Erika Kirk is permanently stepping down as TPUSA CEO
Following the incident at the Washington Hilton Hotel, Erika opened up about the experience about the incident in a video, explaining how it has impacted her.
In the video, she said, “Saturday was yet another traumatic example of the evil in our country and the continued rise in political violence. I’m taking time to spend with my family."
Following this, social media rumors began claiming Erika Kirk has permanently stepped down as the CEO of TPUSA after being traumatized by the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump on April 25, to cope with the trauma of the shooting.
Fact Check: Misleading; the stepping down is only temporary
However, the claims are false, as it ignored the fact that the stepping down is only temporary. Erika later replied to the viral post, writing, “First I’m hearing of it.” TPUSA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet also called the claim fake news.
There is no credible evidence or official statements from the conservative organisation supporting the viral claim.
A fact-check by Grok stated, “Erika Kirk announced she's stepping back temporarily from TPUSA events and duties to focus on family after a traumatic incident at the recent White House Correspondents' Dinner. She hasn't resigned as CEO. The "will step down" claim exaggerates a short-term pause amid ongoing criticism and threats.”
Erika Kirk defends WHCD appearance following criticisms
Erika was invited to the dinner as a special guest, drawing criticism about why she was present there, as it is reserved for the president and family, the White House staff, and the correspondents.
Addressing the criticisms on 'The Charlie Kirk Show,' she said that she wanted to look the journalists who spread "lies" about her in the eye.
“I went to the White House Correspondents' Dinner for one reason. Too many journalists have done everything they can to dehumanize me for months, and I wanted to look them in the eye,” she said.
Following the shooting, a video surfaced showing her being evacuated while she was heard sobbing and saying, "I just want to go home."
