WASHINGTON, DC: The buzz around Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration on January 20 is as loud as a Snoop Dogg track at a backyard BBQ.

With just days to go, people are speculating wildly about who’s set to perform at the big event. One name that’s raising eyebrows is hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg.

Mentioning the West Coast rap legend and Trump in the same sentence (let alone the latter's presidential inauguration) has many scratching their heads on social media. So, is the Doggfather really about to take the stage for Trump’s second inauguration?

Is Snoop Dogg going to perform at Trump's inauguration?

When whispers made the rounds on the internet that Snoop Dogg might perform at Trump’s inauguration, the reactions were equal parts disbelief and excitement.

“Did I just hear that right? Snoop Dogg is going to perform at the inauguration? #JesseWattersPrimetime,” one posted on X, clearly floored.

Another chimed in with optimism, “I thought I heard something that Snoop Dogg was going to perform!! I do hope this is true and hope Snoop would consider performing at Trump’s inauguration!!”

But the surprise was real for some. “Are you kidding me?? Snoop Dogg is performing at the inauguration. I thought he’s the one that had that video of shooting a president. Was that him? Wow, what a turnaround,” someone else remarked, referencing the rapper’s controversial past.

Others were ready to embrace the idea as a symbol of unity. “If Snoop Dogg performs at Trump’s inauguration, I would be surprised! But it would be a start to unification!!!” another added.

Fact Check: Not happening

Let’s clear this up right away—Snoop Dogg isn’t performing at Trump’s inauguration. However, he is slated to perform at an event just a few days before.

According to Politico, the rapper will headline the Crypto Ball on January 17.

So, while Snoop isn’t joining the inauguration lineup, his name is still making headlines in the days leading up to the big event.

A rocky history between Snoop Dogg and Trump

To say Snoop Dogg and Donald Trump have had a complicated relationship is an understatement. Their feud dates back to 2017 when Snoop dropped the music video for “Lavender (Nightfall Remix).” In it, he included a Trump-like clown character and even aimed a gun at the figure.

Trump wasn’t exactly thrilled and took to X (Twitter at the time). “Can you imagine what the outcry would be if @SnoopDogg, failing career and all, had aimed and fired the gun at President Obama? Jail time!” he wrote at the time.

Fast forward to 2018, and Snoop was still firing shots. He said Trump "drew the lines" of division in his role at the White House. "Before him, there were no lines. Everybody was everybody, we respected everything. We didn’t trip," he insisted, per Newsweek.

By 2020, the rapper’s disdain for Trump hit new levels. Snoop admitted, “I ain’t never voted a day in my life, but this year I think I’m going to get out and vote because I can’t stand to see this punk in office one more year.” He even dropped a track titled “Make America Crip Again,” a not-so-subtle jab at Trump’s MAGA slogan.

But just when it seemed like Snoop and Trump were destined to be lifelong nemeses, things took a surprising turn.

In 2022, Snoop Dogg did a complete 180 — declaring he had “only love and respect” for Trump. The primary reason was that Trump had pardoned Death Row Records co-founder Michael Harris, someone who was instrumental in launching Snoop’s career.

“Donald Trump? He ain’t done nothing wrong to me. He has done only great things for me,” Snoop said, praising the former president’s decision to pardon Harris who had been serving time for drug-related offenses.
