WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump on Thursday, January 29, announced during a cabinet meeting in the White House that the murder rate in the United States is the lowest in 125 Years.

The POTUS mentioned that it is the 'biggest drop ever recorded' in America's history. But is there any truth to Trump's statement? Let us find out below.

Claim: Trump says murder rate in US is lowest in 125 years

During a cabinet meeting on Thursday, the POTUS announced that 2025 was 'the most successful year of any administration in American history.' He added, "There's never been a first year like this, including the fact that we put out, extinguished wars, and another one we think is coming."

He then mentioned, "It was just announced that the murder rate in our country has the biggest drop ever recorded. It's at the lowest level in 125 years."

Trump also mentioned that crime is 'way down' and said that one of the reasons was because "we've taken a lot of bad people, got them out of our country". He also mentioned that in some cases, the people were so bad that "we put them in prison because we don't want to even take a chance of them coming back again".

The POTUS also said that there were zero illegal aliens admitted into the country for the last eight months.

Fact check: True, report shows murder rate hits lowest level since 1900

The claims made by President Trump are true, as a new report shows Murders fell 21% last year in 35 large US cities — the biggest one-year drop ever and likely the lowest rate since 1900, accounting for 922 fewer deaths.

The report predicted that the rate will drop even further, to four per 100,000 residents, when the FBI releases nationwide data for jurisdictions of all sizes.

Moreover, the Council on Criminal Justice (CCJ) found in a new analysis from 40 American cities a decrease in crime across 11 out of 13 categories of offenses last year compared to 2024.

The POTUS has taken credit for falling crime rates around the United States and cited his immigration crackdown and deployment of the National Guard in cities across the country since he began his second run as President.

Furthermore, FBI Director Kash Patel highlighted the CCJ report’s findings on January 22 and credited the Administration for the reduction in overall crime. He wrote in an X post, "Media gymnastics can’t hide the reality that this administration brought law and order back, and Americans are safer because of it."
