Meghan Markle shared, "In 2015, I adopted a beagle from a dog rescue in Canada. He had been at a kill shelter in Kentucky and given a few days to live. I swooped him up and fell in love."
Meghan explained that the rescue team had referred to him as "the little guy" due to his small and frail frame, which inspired her to name him "Guy." She described him as "the best guy any girl could have asked for."
The video features candid moments of Guy cuddling with Meghan, playing with Prince Harry, and accompanying family outings. Notably, the clip includes the voices of Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, offering a rare insight into their lives.
Meghan’s voice is heard reassuring Archie in one segment, as the young prince gently says, “He might fall,” while the dog joins them in the backseat. “He’s not gonna fall, don’t you worry, Mama has him,” Meghan responds lovingly, "Thank you for being such a good boy!"
Prince Harry also makes a heartwarming appearance, seen encouraging Guy as they walk along the beach. “Come on, Guy! Good job!” Harry cheers.
The video concludes with a sweet family singalong, led by either Archie or Lilibet, with the lyrics, “We love you, Guy! And we’ll be true, when you’re not near us, we’re blue!”
Meghan admitted, "I have shed too many tears to count," expressing deep gratitude for Guy's "unconditional love" throughout their time together. The tribute ended with Meghan’s heartfelt words: "You filled my life in ways you'll never know."
Guy, along with their other dogs, Pula and Mama Mia, will make an appearance in Meghan Markle's upcoming Netflix series, 'With Love, Meghan', set to premiere on January 15.
Meghan Markle honors her late dog Guy while sending a subtle message to King Charles III
The montage not only celebrated Guy’s legacy but also gave royal fans a rare glimpse into Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s family life. This subtle inclusion of their children has been interpreted by some as a potential olive branch to King Charles III, who reportedly longs for more time with his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet.
Body language expert Judi James weighed in on the emotional impact of the video, telling The Mirror, “If the reveal of her love of Guy and of his life with the Sussexes weren’t enough, there’s added poignancy in the glimpses here of Archie and Lilibet, which will presumably be devoured by both grandads as well as the fans.”
“This is possibly the most poignant moment for anyone craving the family vibe,” she noted.
Reports suggest that King Charles remains deeply committed to fostering a relationship with all his grandchildren. A royal source shared, “The King is absolutely committed to being present in all of his grandchildren's lives. He values family above everything and whatever the course of his relationship with his son he would never be content with just seeing his grandchildren on the odd video call.”
Royal biographer Ingrid Seward shared a similar perspective with The Mirror, stating, “It is a great sadness to him he doesn’t see more of Archie and Lilibet.”
“He does not want a FaceTime relationship with his son’s children. He wants to know them and be involved with their lives while they are still young enough to be able to learn from his wisdom.”
