LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Rolling Stone has been receiving a lot of backlash from Adele fans after a writer for their German version stated that Taylor Swift is the "better" artist.

As Swift's latest album, 'The Tortured Poets Department' began to appear on record stores and streaming platforms, Rolling Stone Germany published a review by writer Ralf Niemczyk on Friday, April 19, titled 'Taylor Swift: 'The Tortured Poets Department' - the better Adele.'

Although both singers often write songs about love and grief, fans of Adele, 35, flocked to social media to express their outrage at the "random" comparison.

Translated from German, writer Ralf Niemczyk wrote in his review: "In their mega stew of all modern pop ingredients, the quality of the songwriting continues to beat the material of their colleagues from the R&B Champions League, like Adele," per TMZ.

Fans of the British singer are understandably furious about this since many have pointed out that Swift and Adele are strikingly different singers while having a vague common connection through their shared experience of lost love.

The majority of fans have charged that Rolling Stone is demeaning Adele by contrasting her with Swift. They emphasized how much better the British singer's voice is.

The comparison might not be entirely coincidental, given that Swift's controversial review coincides with news that her album 'The Tortured Poets Department' is expected to become the second by a female artist to sell over two million copies in its first week of release in the US.

Swift's most recent release is still trailing closely behind Adele's '25' (the album that has always been in the lead), whose third studio album was released in 2015 with 3.48 million units during its first week of sales, per Daily Mail.

However, 'The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology' was victorious in another category, defeating Beyonce's country album 'Cowboy Carter' to claim the title of 2024's biggest album debut on Spotify following its number one position on global rankings.

Enraged Adele fans slam Rolling Stone for 'insane' comparison

Fans of the British singer took to X (formerly Twitter) to lambast the media outlet for making such a comparison between Swift and Adele, with one stating, "Rolling Stone called Taylor Swift the "better Adele" aight lets pump the brakes."

A second user slammed and said, "Rolling Stone about Taylor Swift: "the better Adele"… girl let me tell you that you will never be even a bit of what Queen Adele is!"

"Taylor Swift PR is insane because wtf do you mean she’s the better Adele," exclaimed a third fan.

A fourth one remarked, "Classless and just plain wrong."

"This charade has gotten ridiculous! I cannot," snarked another fan.

One more noted, "They could've praised her without involving Adele wtf??!"

"Adele is like 1000X better than Taylor Swift There’s literally no debate," clarified one.

"Rolling Stone are bold for that “The Better Adele” statement. Because if I was Queen Adele I would buy the whole company and fired the whole staff too. Never ever compare a non energetic singer like Taylor Swift to Queen Adele again!" exclaimed one.
