Firerose accuses Billy Ray Cyrus of ‘extreme verbal and psychological abuse’ in response to his divorce filing
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Following Billy Ray Cyrus's divorce filing, Firerose, 36, submitted a counter complaint to a Tennessee court on June 14, accusing him of "extreme verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse."
To provide context, Cyrus filed for divorce on May 23 after nearly seven months of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct.
In her response, Firerose denied any inappropriate marital conduct, asserting that Cyrus's behavior was so problematic that living together was “unsafe.”

According to People, Firerose's complaint mentioned Cyrus's substance abuse issues, describing him as “unpredictable and volatile.” It was also noted that he filed for divorce just one day before she was scheduled to undergo a preventative double mastectomy.
Firerosé’s attorneys stated, “Wife was the victim of extreme verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse. Wife was subjected to Husband’s persistent drug use, accompanied by marijuana consumption, which made Husband unpredictable and volatile towards Wife.”
Representatives for Billy Ray Cyrus declined to comment.
Firerose’s complaint highlights her health issues
The complaint also detailed Firerose's health issues, noting that she was diagnosed with the BRCA1 gene mutation in 2020.
In March, she was advised to undergo a preventative double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery, which she scheduled for May 24, 2024. According to reports, the weeks leading up to the surgery were described as “chaotic,” with Cyrus allegedly continuously launching "verbal assaults” at her, placing her “into an emotional and psychological prison.”
The complaint stated, "When Wife would attempt to voice certain concerns, Husband would often call her a ‘selfish f***ing b***h’ and continually alleged that she was using him."
Cyrus filed for divorce on May 23, less than 24 hours before Firerose was scheduled for surgery. The complaint also alleges that Cyrus’s brother and sister-in-law banged on her bedroom door for three-and-a-half hours that day, demanding she leave their shared home.
She complied and postponed her surgery “indefinitely” because she had nowhere to live and was allegedly depending on Cyrus’s health insurance and previous “promises to pay for her surgery.”

Firerose also accused Cyrus of deliberately trying to sabotage her career “in retaliation.” The couple had hired the same manager and booking agent in August 2023, but Firerose claimed in the complaint that they “terminated their services” with her within three hours of each other, following Cyrus’s instructions.
She alleged that Cyrus’s “interference” caused her to lose $415,000 and is now seeking alimony from her ex-husband.
The complaint stated, “The accumulation of years of verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse, combined with the fact that Husband has had a direct hand in restricting Wife’s access to income and future opportunities, Wife has developed severe emotional distress from Husband’s actions. Wife has had to seek psychological treatment from her therapist for emergency sessions on more than one occasion.”
