Flavor Flav praised as he pays for fans’ therapy app subscriptions to celebrate 4 years of sobriety
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Flavor Flav is preparing to celebrate a significant achievement in his sobriety journey.
In a heartfelt Instagram video posted on Thursday, October 10, the 65-year-old revealed that he is just days away from reaching four years of sobriety.
Flavor Flav to pay for therapy and AI support
Flav's announcement coincided with World Mental Health Day, with him crediting his improved mental health as a key factor in his success.
"October is an important month for my mental health. Next week, I am 4 years sober from alcohol," he said.
"And today is mental health awareness day. My mental health is an important part of my sobriety journey," he added.
In the video, Flav shared how therapy has played a critical role in his sobriety, revealing that he regularly speaks with two therapists to manage his mental health.
One of them is 'Sonia', an AI-based therapy app that he described as a game-changer in his journey.
"I talk to a therapist. In fact, I talk to two. I got a crazy schedule and travels, my manager recommended trying out Sonia - an AI therapist that has been there for me like Janet Jackson says - Any Time Any Place," he joked.
The rapper emphasized how the 'Sonia: AI Therapy' app has helped him maintain his mental health while navigating his busy lifestyle.
Flav now hopes to pay it forward by helping others facing similar struggles.
The 'Flavor of Love' star announced that he had worked with the app's team to offer free subscriptions to anyone who signed up on October 10.
"I always like to be the first to do something revolutionary. This is something special that has the ability to help so many people. Help me help you," said Flav.

Flavor Flav reflected on his addiction
As Flavor Flav approaches his four-year sobriety mark on October 19, he has been open about his past struggles with addiction.
In a candid interview on the Off the Record with DJ Akademiks podcast earlier this year, the Public Enemy founding member detailed how severe his addiction once was.
"There was a time that I was spending $2,400 to $2,600 a day... for six years straight, you do the math," Flav admitted.
"That's how much I spent on drugs," he added.
Flav even spend nearly $1 million per year on drugs, but he managed to hide his substance abuse from the public.
"I maintained myself very well while using and kept it hidden too," he said.
Flav's sobriety journey began in 2020, and he now uses his platform to educate others about the dangers of addiction.
"I guess God wanted me to live. And he knows that I'm a mouthpiece to the world," Flav reflected.
"So, I feel that God let me live through that, so that way, I could teach people about the mistakes that I made. And hopefully, they won't make them later on in life," he shared, according to People.
