Flavor Flav comes to Selena Gomez’s defense
In her video, Selena Gomez wiped away her tears saying, “All my people are getting attacked, the children."
“I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise,” she added.
While some applauded Gomez for her vulnerability and advocacy, others criticized her, questioning why she was not using her estimated $1.3 billion net worth to make a tangible difference.
Amid the backlash, hip-hop legend Flav took to X to defend Gomez, commending her courage to speak out on such a divisive issue.

Political figures join the fray
The controversy escalated when US Senate candidate Sam Parker became one of Selena Gomez’s harshest critics.
Parker posted the tearful video on X alongside a shocking call for her deportation despite the actress being an American citizen born in Texas.
“Deport Selena Gomez. Selena Gomez picked illegals over America because she’s the third-gen descendant of Mexican illegals who received citizenship in the ‘87 Amnesty,’" Parker wrote.
"She has an entitlement attitude toward America, like her illegal grandparents," he added.
Gomez, known for her composure in the face of criticism, responded with a measured reply on Instagram. “Oh Mr Parker, Mr Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat,” she posted.
Selena Gomez’s advocacy and personal connection
Selena Gomez’s advocacy for undocumented immigrants stems from her family’s history.
In her 2019 Netflix documentary 'Living Undocumented', the singer explored the struggles of undocumented families in America.
She also shared her personal connection to the issue, revealing how her paternal grandparents fled Mexico in search of a better life in the US.
Her aunt first crossed the border in the 1970s, hidden in the back of a truck.
Her grandparents, Ricardo and Mary, later followed and built a life in the US where they welcomed Gomez’s father, Ricardo, according to Daily Mail.
In the documentary, Gomez reflected on how her family’s experiences shaped her perspective as she said, “I am a proud American by birth and a proud Mexican by heritage. This issue is deeply personal to me.”
