Ex-‘Today’ host Matt Lauer makes rare public appearance while shopping in The Hamptons 6 yrs after firing

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Matt Lauer made a rare public appearance just before Christmas, marking his first since he was fired from ‘Today’ six years ago.

The 65-year-old seemed somber as he ventured out alone for a pre-holiday shopping excursion. This came following Lauer’s firing six years ago from the NBC show he co-hosted with Savannah Guthrie.

After his exit, he was replaced by Hoda Kotb.

Ever since Lauer was let go, he has kept himself out of the spotlight until recently, when he was seen at his home in The Hamptons, as per The Sun.

Ever since Matt Lauer’s infamous dismissal in late 2017 over allegations of "inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace", he has maintained a relatively secluded life, mostly residing in his Hamptons home.

However, on a recent Saturday, he emerged for a solo shopping excursion, appearing somber just ahead of the holidays.

The former ‘Today’ show anchor opted for a casual ensemble, donning jeans and a dark, long-sleeve shirt.

To fend off the chill, he wore a bright orange jacket, a scarf, and a beanie hat as he browsed through nearby stores.

With his phone in hand and only one shopping bag, the 65-year-old was seen venturing back into the parking lot.

Earlier this month, he was reportedly spotted on a date night with his girlfriend Shamin Abas, and the two attended a wedding in New York City alongside former co-star Savannah Guthrie and other NBC colleagues, including Kotb, Craig Melvin, Sheinelle Jones, and Al Roker.

Guthrie initially hesitated to attend the event upon learning of Lauer’s presence, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Nevertheless, she and her co-host Kotb engaged with everyone, even taking selfies with fellow guests, as per Page Six.

Matt Lauer requests Savannah Guthrie to help get back his ‘Today’ job

According to RadarOnline, Matt Lauer has allegedly been making efforts to enlist the support of 'Today' co-host to help get his career back on track.

The purported conversation took place during the star-studded wedding of 'Today' producer Jennifer Long, where Lauer was seen seeking assistance from Guthrie.

An additional source, as reported by the National Enquirer, claimed, "Savannah and Matt looked to be having a serious talk while the party went on."

Lauer's professional downfall occurred in 2017 when he was terminated from the NBC morning show amid allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior with a female colleague.
