Fox's Hunt brands downed F-15 'worst-case' for crew, 'best-case' for Iran's propaganda machine

'It is a worst-case scenario for that F-15 crew. It is a best-case scenario in many ways for the Iranian propaganda arm right now', Hunt said

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A US fighter jet being brought down over Iran has triggered alarm, with Fox News's Jonathan Hunt warning that the incident plays directly into Tehran’s narrative.

Speaking on Fox News on Friday, April 3, Hunt described the development as a propaganda win for Iran, even as search-and-rescue efforts for the pilots continue following the crash of the American F-15.

Jonathan Hunt details 'best case scenario for Iran'

Reporting from Tel Aviv, Hunt emphasized how the situation is being framed by Iranian state messaging, saying, “I can tell you that from an Iranian perspective, they are and will continue to treat this as a huge victory.”

He pointed specifically to the symbolic weight of the incident, noting, “Just for the start, the very fact that they were able to shoot down one of these F-15s will demonstrate to the US and to Israeli forces that they have the capability to do that.”

He further underscored the propaganda value by drawing a stark contrast: “It is a worst-case scenario, obviously, for that F-15 crew. It is a best-case scenario in many ways for the Iranian propaganda arm right now.”

The downing of a sophisticated US aircraft, Hunt suggested, offers Tehran a rare opportunity to project strength both domestically and internationally, regardless of the broader military reality.

Search underway as conflicting information emerges

Meanwhile, details surrounding the fate of the pilots remain fluid.

A US official confirmed that one of the two crew members has already been located and rescued by US special forces, while efforts to find the second pilot are still ongoing.

The information points to an active and potentially dangerous rescue operation unfolding on the ground.

Hunt added that Iranian state television has escalated tensions further, revealing, “It has put out a message offering a very large reward to anybody who captures the pilot.”

He stressed that such messaging reflects official positioning, noting that Iranian TV “is state TV, so it’s speaking for the government when it does this.”

At the same time, uncertainty continues to cloud real-time developments.

“We have also seen some video of what we believe are US aircraft flying in the area, presumably as part of that search and rescue mission,” Hunt said, adding that the footage contained “what appears to be small arms fire” directed at those aircraft.

However, he cautioned that not all visuals circulating online have been independently verified.
