NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The Met Gala 2024 saw a veritable who-is-who of celebrities across the world bringing their A-game to fashion’s biggest night.

This year’s event happened on May 6 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art to raise funds for the museum’s summer exhibition.

The theme for the gala was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” while the dress code was “The Garden of Time”.

Though there were many fascinating looks presented by stars, like Sabrina Carpenter, Rita Ora, and Chris Hemsworth, some of them ended up becoming memes of the year.

There was no doubt Rebecca Ferguson did bring something unique as she attended the gala in an oversized, ruffled look, which included a sparkly dress underneath by Thom Browne. But the internet saw it more as a barber’s cloth.

Others even called it a “Black rose toy” and “trash bag.”

Another look that was made fun of was Kim Kardashian’s, who wore a sheer dress by Maison Margiela that came with a lace train featuring leaves and floral accents.

The main highlight of the look was the corset which she covered with a gray shawl.

Barry Keoghan compared to Charles Dickens

Though Barry Keoghan appeared decent in a Burberry suit that he paired with a hat, meme-makers compared his stylist to Charles Dickens.

Meanwhile, Lana Del Rey’s ‘Thorn Crown’ became the highlight of her look, which was reportedly inspired by Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti.

However, her interaction with Kim Kardashian resulted in hilarious reactions with a user tweeting, “Well deserved 😂😭.” Another said, “I love this more than anything right now.”

A third added, “Seems like it’s on purpose haha.”

Disappointment over many looks

A user compared Rey’s look to a mosquito net as they stated, “Lana is prepared just in case of mosquitoes.” A even compared her to a scary figure.

Other stars who were poked fun at were Bad Bunny, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Ed Sheeran as a user posted, “Celebs having all the money in the world and somehow still failing miserably at all red carpets events. that sh*t takes talent too #metgala.”

Another said, “Me when everyone shows up at the Met gala in florals bc they took the theme ‘garden of time’ too literally.”

"Celebrities are so afraid of turning into a meme that they choose safe and boring outfits on the ONE NIGHT they’re supposed to show out #MetGala," an X user shared their disappointment.
