ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA: Vice President JD Vance’s cheerful family outing to Disneyland took a sour turn, marred by protesters and political backlash, including a sharp jab from California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Vance was spotted strolling through the park with his wife, Usha Vance, and their children, Vivek and Mirabel, holding hands as they enjoyed a family day out.

Beaming with joy, the family walked through Bayou Country in the amusement park, accompanied by a Secret Service security detail.

Although primarily a family trip, the visit also supported the second lady’s literacy work, as she read to children of military families at Camp Pendleton.

JD Vance family’s Disneyland outing marred by protestors and political dig

As soon as the video of JD Vance's family Disneyland outing reached Gavin Newsom’s feed, the Democratic governor wasted no time in expressing his grievances over the family enjoying a weekend out.

“Hope you enjoy your family time, @JDVance. The families you’re tearing apart certainly won’t,” Newsom wrote on X on Sunday, July 13.

The California governor’s dig came after more than 100 protesters gathered outside the Grand Californian Hotel, where the Vance family was reportedly staying, to rebuke the Donald Trump administration’s mass deportation operations.

One protester held a sign bearing Vance’s face that read, “No family vacation while families are torn apart.” “I would tell him to go home,” another protester told FOX 11. “We don’t want him here.”

Local Democratic leaders appeared to support the protests aimed at Vance and his family. “I’m offended by the visit, because so many families are being terrorized by the policies from the federal government,” Orange County Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento told KTLA.

The Vance family’s Disneyland visit came just a day after federal agents conducted two large ICE raids on farms in Ventura County, detaining nearly 200 suspected undocumented immigrants.

JD Vance hits back at Gavin Newsom’s snarky jibe

Following his family’s Disneyland outing, JD Vance sarcastically hit back at Gavin Newsom’s snarky jibe. “Had a great time, thanks,” he wrote on X.

However, Newsom’s attacks on Vance didn’t end there, as his press office kept up a steady stream of jabs, mocking the Disneyland trip even as ICE raids escalated across Los Angeles.

“35% of Anaheim’s residents are immigrants. Disneyland doesn’t run without them. Enjoy their labor, @JDVance,” the account posted.

"Tired: trashing California for political purposes," Newsom’s press office wrote in another X post, adding, “Wired: visiting & vacationing in California more than your home state this year.”

At Disneyland, other parkgoers also complained about experiencing delays and long lines due to the added security and ride closures for the Vance family.

The park reportedly shut down several rides to the public to allow the second family to ride them privately, causing lengthy delays for other guests.
