BRIGNOLES, FRANCE: George Clooney and his wife, Amal Clooney, have been forced to leave their home in France as wildfires continue to spread across several European countries.

The A-list actor lives in the town of Brignoles with his human rights lawyer wife and their nine-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella. However, the family evacuated their Domaine du Canadel, an 18th-century country estate, for safety reasons.

In a letter addressed to the mayor of Brignoles, the pair reportedly wrote, “Dear Didier, At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment.”

They stated, “As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasise 2 things, first we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and i are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole.”

“We love Brignoles and our friends who live there,” the 'Ocean's Eleven' star and the Lebanese-British lawyer added.

This comes as one report claims that the wildfires in France have grown to four times the size of Paris, forcing around 224,000 people to evacuate their homes in the Gironde region.

The natural disaster has also left nearly 3,000 people in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region with no choice but to leave their homes.

George Clooney prefers France over Hollywood

Meanwhile, although George's work is based in Los Angeles, California, he chose to make a farm in France his primary residence because “a good portion of my life growing up was on a farm.”

He also explained how farm life has benefited his children. “But now, for them, it’s like, they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life,” the 65-year-old actor shared.

The filmmaker further revealed that he was “worried about raising our kids in LA, in the culture of Hollywood.”

“I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake in life. France, they kind of don’t give a damn about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids,” he added.

Also during an interview with The New York Times in February 2025, George also shared, “Growing up in Kentucky, all I wanted to do was get away from a farm, get away from that life. Now I find myself back in that life. I drive a tractor and all those things. It’s the best chance at a normal life.”
