George Clooney cuts ties with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry as couple struggles to make Hollywood return
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are rapidly losing their friends in America. It will be difficult for the Duchess of Sussex to rely on her A-list friends for assistance when she returns to her Hollywood career because they are all separating themselves from the royal couple.
Victoria and David Beckham, who were closest friends with them, are reportedly no longer buddy-buddy with the couple. Daily Mail reported that George and Amal Clooney have also distanced themselves from the 'Suits' alum and her royal spouse.

It was reported that Clooney and his spouse shared a deep bond with the 'Deal or No Deal' alum. Approximately at the time of their wedding, Meghan and Harry even paid them visits at their Oxfordshire and Los Angeles residences. Naturally, the lawyer and the star of 'Ticket to Paradise' also attended their 2018 royal wedding.
The bond between the two couples was documented in the book 'Finding Freedom', which was authored by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, friends of Harry and Meghan.
According to the book, the Sussexes were invited to the Clooneys' Lake Como, Italy, residence a few weeks following the royal wedding, and they left aboard Clooney's personal aircraft.
"Meghan and Amal spent a lot of time relaxing by the pool and playing with the twins while George and Harry checked out George’s motorbike collection," a source said of the three day visit, per Perez Hilton.
"Harry took one of them out with one of his protection officers. George recently had an accident, so he wasn’t back on his bike yet.”
Their trip overlapped briefly with Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank, too.
When did the group’s friendship come to an end?
However, the camaraderie among the group ended soon after the wedding, according to recent accounts. Though it's unclear why, a source told the publication on Saturday, August 31, that Meghan and Clooney are no longer "bosom buddies."
To exacerbate the situation, sources speculate that Clooney and Amal are supporting King Charles III in this fight inside the royal family because they were seen together in May at an award ceremony for Charles's organization, the Prince's Trust.
Remarkably, Clooney has also allegedly stated that, despite securing a prime seat at the wedding, he had no relationship with Meghan and Harry prior to their union.
Journalist Rachel Johnson disclosed via AirMail in 2020, “There’s a story doing the rounds that while Carolyn Bartholomew, Diana’s former flatmate, was waiting for the wedding service to start, she turned to the couple alongside her and asked how they knew Harry or Meghan. ‘We don’t,’ the Clooneys answered brightly.”
Why did George Clooney lie about knowing them?
One reason can be perhaps they were simply not that close when they got married and instead developed a stronger connection over time, which eventually burned out.
In February 2019, there were rumors that Amal had rented a private aircraft to transport Meghan home from her baby shower in New York, an act which one wouldn't probably do for a stranger.
Several celebrities distance themselves from Harry and Meghan
It's clear that the Clooneys aren't the only ones severing their links to the Sussexes. This comes after Daily Mail earlier disclosed that Harry and Meghan are no longer close to David and Victoria Beckham, and who were conspicuously missing from their son Brooklyn Beckham's wedding to Nicola Peltz in April.
Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry have also distanced themselves, with the 'American Idol' judge seeming to have chosen "sides" after appearing at Charles' coronation concert.
