George Clooney reveals painful moment Barack Obama made him lose faith in Joe Biden’s capabilities

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Lifelong Democrat and actor George Clooney opened up about the moment he lost faith in former president Joe Biden.
During a recent interview with The New York Times, he revealed that a specific incident in 2024 involving Barack Obama made him notice Biden seemed "much less sharp" than he was before.

Clooney penned an op-ed on July 10, 2024, titled "I Love Joe Biden. But We Need a New Nominee", where he further expressed his concerns about Biden’s ability to lead the country.

During an interview promoting his new Broadway show 'Good Night, and Good Luck', George Clooney reflected on a pivotal moment at a Hollywood fundraiser last June, where he witnessed Joe Biden being escorted off the stage by Barack Obama.
While it was simply a friendly gesture, with Obama guiding the former president off the stage, the moment was widely discussed, with many critics of Biden claiming he appeared to have "frozen" before the audience.
This incident triggered Clooney to write his op-ed, 'I Love Joe Biden. But We Need a New Nominee.'
Clooney recalled meeting Biden just a year earlier at the Kennedy Center, where he felt the former president "was much sharper."

"I’ve always liked Joe Biden, and I like him still," Clooney told the Times. However, he acknowledged that Biden's visible incapacities made it difficult to defend his record.
He further criticized the Biden administration for failing to effectively communicate the country’s progress on the global stage, saying, "The Biden administration was terrible at explaining that we're a world economy, where we were actually doing better than all the other G7 countries."
Clooney added, "They were bad at telling the story because their messenger was not working at his best, to say the least."
Clooney was not alone in urging Biden to step down. Following concerns raised by many Democrats about Biden's mental acuity, he dropped out of the 2024 election race and endorsed Kamala Harris in his stead.
Geroge Clooney shares his thoughts on Donald Trump and the Democratic Party

George Clooney recently made an appearance on CBS’s 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' to promote his Broadway show, where he shared his thoughts on both President Donald Trump and the Democratic Party.
During the discussion, the conversation inevitably turned to politics, with Clooney reflecting on his political journey.
He revealed that his first vote was for Democratic incumbent Jimmy Carter in the 1980 election, which was won by Ronald Reagan. Clooney humorously added, "I lost with some Bushes and I won with some Clintons and Obamas. You know, this is democracy."
Clooney also referenced the January 6 insurrection, saying, “Well I don't know, what am I supposed to do? Storm the f***ing Capitol?”

He then sent a surprising message to Trump, without naming him directly, saying, “Good for you. I hope you do well because our country needs it, and we will meet you in 3.5 years and see where we go next.”
Though disappointed by the outcome of the 2024 election, Clooney emphasized that losing was part of the democratic process. "There are people who agree and disagree, and most of us still like each other, we're all gonna get through it," he said.
To illustrate his point about dealing with losses, Clooney shared a story about his seven-year-old son, Alexander, who plays in chess tournaments.
"He's seven years old and he's playing against a lot of older kids and he is not winning all the time, as you can imagine. He gets upset, and I say, 'Listen, shake the guy's hand, you say good game, I'll get you next time. And that's kind of how... you've got to live by those rules," Clooney explained.
