George Clooney’s lawyer wife Amal could be barred from entering US under Trump’s new sanctions
WASHINGTON, DC: George Clooney's lawyer wife, Amal Clooney, and several other top British lawyers have reportedly been warned about getting sanctions from President Donald Trump that could ban them from entering the United States.
According to The Financial Times report from last week, the UK Foreign Office warned several high-level barristers about the Trump administration levying sanctions "due to the legal advice they provided to the International Criminal Court in a war crimes case against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant", per People.
In November 2024, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity concerning Israel’s offensive in Gaza.
Amal Clooney could face ban from US under new sanctions from Donald Trump
Donald Trump issued Executive Order 14203 "Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court" in February, naming British lawyer and ICC prosecutor Karim Khan in its annex.
Trump's order states, "The US will impose tangible & significant consequences on those responsible for the ICC's transgressions."
Notably, Khan became the first barrister to face US sanctions for advising in this case, per the outlet.
Interestingly, if sanctions against other UK lawyers are handed down, Amal, who holds British citizenship, could be banned from entering the US where she owns a property with her husband.
Amal and Clooney tied the knot in September 2014, and share 7-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander. She won the Legal 500 Award for International lawyer of the Year in 2024.
Moreover, she frequently represents victims of mass atrocities, including genocide and sexual violence, according to Daily Mail.
Amal acted in many landmark human rights cases, including the ICC trials in which ISIS members were convicted of genocide and crimes against humanity, per the outlet.
Earlier in May 2024, Amal slammed critics accusing her of not using her platform to highlight the alleged plight of the Palestinian people.

George Clooney responded to Donald Trump’s recent attacks on him, saying he has no interest in what the POTUS thinks of him.
During an interview in April on 'CBS Mornings', Clooney told host Gayle King, “I don’t care,” when King asked about Trump's repeated social media insults, per Fox News.
Clooney said, "I’ve known Donald Trump for a long time. My job is not to please the President of the United States."
He added, "My job is to try and tell the truth when I can and when I have the opportunity. I am well aware of the idea that people will not like that, people will criticize that. Elon Musk has weighed in. That is their right. It’s my right to say the other side."
Meanwhile, Clooney also looked back on an earlier visit to the show, fondly recalling a moment he shared with his wife Amal.
"I remember we were here with you once before and I remember we said we'd never had an argument," he said.
Clooney added, "We still haven't. We're trying to find something to fight about!"
