Glen Powell, Daisy Jones and Lee Isaac Chung discuss scrapped kissing scene in ‘Twisters’
During a discussion with the stars of 'Twisters', Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones, director Lee Isaac Chung discussed the scrapped kissing scene.
In 'Twisters', Edgar-Jones, 26, portrays Kate, a retired tornado-chaser who re-enters the field after a traumatic event. Powell, 35, plays Tyler, a social media influencer who joins Kate in chasing storms.
At the end of the movie, Tyler runs through an airport to find Kate. However, contrary to romantic film conventions, the pair do not share a kiss upon reuniting. Powell mentioned that they did film an alternate ending featuring a kiss, jokingly expressing disappointment that it didn't make the final cut.
He quipped, "I'm taking a little offense that they didn't want to use it. Maybe it's just my abilities, I don't know."
Director Chung had a distinct vision for the ending. He explained that he chose to have the characters run off toward another storm instead of kissing and walking into the sunset. Chung, 45, disclosed, "I actually tried the kiss, and it was very polarizing — and it's not because of their performance of the kiss."
He added, "This [no-kiss shot] was the other option that I had filmed on the day, and I got to say, 'I like it better. I think it's a better ending."
