ATLANTA, GEORGIA: A video clip of former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton defending himself against multiple attackers has gone viral, sparking widespread praise for Newton's impressive self-defense skills.

The shocking footage shows Newton, 34, fending off several younger men affiliated with a 7-on-7 youth football team at an Atlanta-area tournament this Sunday, February 25, as per New York Post.

While the catalyst behind the confrontation remains unclear, the NFL icon proves he's still an imposing force even after his playing days, aggressively countering and wresting several aggressors at once.

Details about what sparked confrontation involving Cam Newton remain unknown

The former NFL MVP was attending an invitation-only 7-on-7 tournament on Sunday when he suddenly found himself surrounded and shoved by several men associated with a team called TopShelf Performance. Video shows Newton initially surrounded under a tent by at least three men before the altercation spilled outside into a more secluded, tree-lined area.

Though precise details about what sparked the confrontation remain unknown, reports indicate it may have stemmed from an inflammatory Instagram post Newton made directed at Steph Brown, TopShelf's general manager. Regardless of the impetus, tensions clearly boiled over when TopShelf affiliates aggressively accosted Newton as he stood under the tent.

What's quickly evident from the video making the rounds online is that the 6'5", 245-pound Newton is more than capable of defending himself, even when faced with multiple attackers.

The former NFL star spends much of the 22-second clip grappling with several aggressors at once, at one point getting an assailant in a firm headlock while simultaneously fending off other inbound blows.

Newton displays surprising agility as he sidesteps attempted punches from new assailants entering the fray, all while keeping his original attackers somewhat at bay with his incredible strength and moves. In the end, security and police had to intervene to completely break up the fight.
