STATESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA: Greg Biffle's Hurricane Helene relief posts have resurfaced following his death in the plane crash at Statesville Regional Airport on Thursday, December 18.

The 55-year-old NASCAR legend, who spent the last months of his life as a local hero, used his aviation resources to save others in the very region where his final flight began.

Greg Biffle's Hurricane Helene relief post resurfaces

In the wake of the accident, the public has revisited Biffle's recent social media activity, which documented his tireless efforts to aid North Carolina after Hurricane Helene.

One of his posts read, “6 months ago we left Statesville airport to head towards the mountains our state and others were horribly affected by hurricane Helene I drove through blowing rock yesterday and it was crazy to see so much debris still around the water after 6 months glad to see businesses starting to come back!”

Tributes pour in for Greg Biffle’s humanitarian legacy

Leaders, humanitarian groups and fellow drivers have poured out their grief, highlighting that Biffle’s impact extended far beyond the racetrack.

Secretary Sean Duffy praised his character on X, saying, “Greg Biffle wasn't just a NASCAR legend -- he was a true patriot who used his platform, wealth, and resources to help people. When Hurricane Helene devasted communities across Western North Carolina, he jumped into action to save lives and deliver critical supplies.”

The United Cajun Navy also honored his memory, noting, “The @Unitedcajunnavy mourns the loss of @gbiffle and family members this morning. Greg was devoted to North Carolina and saved countless lives after Hurricane Helene. He was responsible for massive donations of propane that were distributed by our volunteers. Rest in power!”

Meteorologist Chris Jackson reflected on the scale of Biffle’s generosity, saying, “I’m sure there’s 1,000,000 other posts out there but it cannot be stated how vital Greg Biffle was in organizing the western NC Helene relief effort which was among one of the largest civilian humanitarian missions ever on American soil. The world didn’t just lose a NASCAR great today. The world lost a great man and great family that selflessly stepped up and used their resources for the greater good to help total strangers during their greatest time of need. Rest in peace.”

Close friend and champion Kurt Busch added, “I am devastated to hear of the passing of my friend Greg Biffle, his wife, Cristina, and their children Emma and Ryder. This kind of loss is impossible to understand, and I’m keeping their loved ones in my thoughts and prayers during this tragic time.”
